GUJook97, I don't know, it seems as if more and more people believe that Manti Te'o was somehow a victim in all of this. The fact that there is some MTV nonsense called Catfish, which apparently deals with people being duped by someone on the Internet gives some credibility to M.Te'o's LIES!! It's funny how M.Te'o's family members are in on his lies too. I'm guessing M.Te'o always lies to his circle(friends, family members, classmates) and didn't realize that lying to professional journalists takes a lot more smarts!!
The only good thing about this for Manti Te'o is that he hasn't broken any laws, so he really doesn't need to talk to anyone. I'm surprised that the media hasn't swarmed/stalked him in Florida as he trains for the NFL draft. This story is 2 days old and we haven't seen or heard from M.Te'o, is he still training for the draft or is he in hiding??

It's really odd that at a University of Notre Dame's level, they don't ask or provide simple reasons for the lies. Like the phone records of him talking "4-8 hours a night" with his girlfriend (which btw-he's a CFB player, a student at a prestigious university--when does this lying a-hole do homework and sleep?) or letters given to him? He got caught and being a self loving piece of scum--he's in hiding like all cowards are and he/his agent were in discussions with his boy who is taking the blame or will take the blame while the other piece of crap Brian Teo is in hiding.
What's come from this is that Notre Dame has to be happy beyond belief this clown is moving on and that NFL teams are as bad at lying as Teo. They'll take him in a second if they think he can play (he can) and this talk of character--yeah that really matters. Half of the executives do far worse things then Teo and never get caught. They'll be far more interested in asking him why he was pathetic in games against Pitt/Alabama when they ran physical running game at him-he was awful. That will bother NFL people far more then this crap.
I'm just annoyed by the continued lie-he's an a-hole who wants glory and were trying to get a prestigious award and build a brand--but to make yourself sound mentally incapable of functioning (talking 4-8 hours--and if we're to believe he's not lying how stupid is this clown? Nobody can hold up a lie for that long and 3 years of it?) in society, why do that? Just cop to it and move on. People make mistakes and do stupid crap--but to keep insulting people's intelligence, that is where it makes the question of whether this guy can function as an asset to anyone in any field of work.
Anyone who believes this guy, I'll just say--I'm in need of 1 billion dollars to do save my girlfriend Shedont Putout as she's battling a terrible disease known as Imfullofshyt. It's a rare disease and I stay up all of 5 seconds texting her and am worried sick over the fact she died 10 years ago. Thank you for your donation and I'll make sure I send a picture of her and forward on some texts I got last night from her.

One would also imagine the bill for the white roses he had sent to the funeral would be easy to dig up.

But, like others said, as the facts start to trickle out, it would really be impossible for this story to hold up. You only have to look at some interview transcripts to see the lies, or start followin some of the details, like RDF and Elvado mentioned. People are going to do that. It's not going to go away.

RDF, I understand why you'd be annoyed by Manti Te'o's lying, but he's clearly not going to come clean about this anytime soon because it will make him look even worse for NFL teams. I mean, news programs are bringing on psychologists(saw it on Channel 5 last night) to discuss his behavior and ESPN are asking their "experts" how all of this will affect his draft status. For the last 2 hours, a show on 106.7 has been discussing Gays Coming Out In The NFL because of this M.Te'o situation. Continuing the foolishness about M.Te'o being a victim is the only way for M.Te'o to save face. Admitting the truth, we'll just bring on more and more speculation about him being gay, mentally ill, stupid or whatever other labels people want to throw out there!! You're right about the NFL not caring about character, the only time character is an issue in pro sports is when the player is average or below average.
GUJook97, you're right, we don't even need to see transcripts to see that Manti Te'o is lying and made this up as a way to get some 'aww, what a poor guy' type of attention for himself, but the fact that there is some sort of show that deals with this called Catfish and the Notre Dame AD is backing M.Te'o makes a lot of people feel as if he's a victim. I don't even get why the AD is supporting Te'o, he's not even a student anymore. The AD appears to be dumber than M.Te'o is!! LOL

Deadspin already has another article out today quoting Teo's continued indication that he had a girlfriend who died in the days after he supposedly found out it was a hoax on Dec. 6.
And how Notre Dame supported a group in January who was raising cancer research funds in the girlfriend's name after the school supposedly found out on Dec. 26.
I don't think the silence is going to hold up.

and didn't realize that lying to professional journalists takes a lot more smarts!! Except it doesn't. The professional journalists all fell for it, and this reveal was only triggered because they used a picture of someone not in on it and she saw herself, right?

If it turns out that Te'o is gay, he created this subterfuge to protect his identity, and he soon comes out, you will see the fastest perception reversal in the history of American sports. Everyone (except maybe RDF ;D) will feel sorry for him, and the sympathy factor will go through the roof. Look at the extreme measures this poor guy had to take to protect himself - and his father will also be portrayed sympathetically - what father wouldn't do what was necessary to protect his son from being treated as an athletic pariah? Just watch.

Hell, Obama and Goodell would probably want a Rainbow month where the players need to raise awareness for bullying kids who have to hide who they are when caught making up stories about fake dead girlfriends. Just imagine "It takes a MAN-TI to come out". I wish this clown and his family nothing but the worst.

This Te'o story is just getting crazier by the hour it seems. I'm convinced that Touiasiasopa(or however its spelled) is some sort of Jackass/Ali G character who will do or say ANYTHING for publicity. Toui, Manti Te'o and the rest of their crew all have minds of juveniles and are just putting out crazy stories about this in order to troll the media. To me, that is what is going on right now because the stories(girl in photo claims to be high school classmate of Touiasiasopo, 3 people pretending to be Te'o girlfriend on the phone with him) coming out make no sense. They are all probably sitting somewhere laughing about this.
SFHoya99, you're right the "professional" journalists did fall for it, but who would expect a supposedly well-rounded guy like Manti Te'o to be pulling shenanigans like this? We're seeing now that he has a mind of a middle-schooler, but at the time, nobody would've suspected him of behaving like that. He's ruined it for ALL future athletes who have a back story of a spouse or girlfriend dying because people will be skeptical

As ESPN Debated, Manti Te’o Story Slipped AwayQUOTE: Some inside the network argued that its reporters — who had initially been put onto the story by Tom Condon, Te’o’s agent — had enough material to justify publishing an article. Others were less sure and pushed to get an interview with Te’o, something that might happen as soon as the next day. For them, it was a question of journalistic standards. They did not want to be wrong.
“We were very close,” said Vince Doria, ESPN’s chief for news. “We wanted to be very careful.”
ESPN held the story, and then lost it.
That afternoon, Deadspin, a sports Web site, reported that the girlfriend did not exist. She had never lived. She had never died. She had never met with or talked to Te’o over the many months he thought he was in contact with a thoughtful, gravely ill Stanford alumna named Lennay Kekua. Deadspin strongly suggested that Te’o was complicit in the fake tale and had exploited it to bolster his bid for acclaim.ESPN has journalist standards?

"Yes, we fell for a total fraud, hook, line, and sinker. But then we ALMOST broke the story about the fraud that we ourselves helped perpetrate. But because of our 'journalistic integrity'—which never once stopped us from running a story about a FAKE PERSON or prompted us to fact check at all—we didn't run the story in time." Nonsense.

Not to mention that one of the Deadspin reporters is still an undergraduate, not a "professional" journalist like ESPN presumably employs. Deadspin also said that they essentially just used google and twitter to put the pieces together and made a few phone calls to fact check. To me it sounded like this story was there for anyone who was willing to look. This wasnt the Pentagon Papers.

Man, I'd hate to be Te'o right now. He's still getting cracked on every day. Agree HIS, and this is one of the weirdest stories - sports or not - that I've read about in recent years. If this were a TV show, you wouldn't believe it. You'd probably be shouting at the TV "Who writes this stuff anyway?! @!)*%&Q*#&%" "Who in their right mind would believe a cockamamie story like this!"

Ran a 4.81/4.80 today in the combine, which is bad. It's just to build a cover story to explain why he dropped to the bottom of the first round. It's not that he's a potential head case or that the NFL is homophobic ... he's just not all that talented.
