i love it when this team has problems. they are blaming the refs, the floor, and everything else for the vermont loss. now we learn that 3 players were not even on the bench friday. edelin is as good as gone. i would not be shocked if both wright's left too. neither got much time this year. here is a clip for the syracuse paper......
----------------------------------------------------------- Syracuse University took the court here at the DCU Center for its first round game against Vermont in the NCAA tournament with just eight scholarship players.
Three players: all reserves, were absent from the game.
Syracuse, which lost to Vermont 60-57 in overtime, played without Billy Edelin, Dayshawn Wright and Josh Wright.
Syracuse University officials offered no explainatino for the absences.
After the game, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim refused to discuss the situation.
"Yes, there's a reason," Boeheim said before twice refusing to elaborate. Edelin and Dayshawn Wright never left Syracuse. Josh Wright was with the team on Thursday. He participated in the team's open practice at the DCU Center on Thursday.
Josh Wright's father, Michael, attended Friday's game with three of his son's brothers. The elder Wright had no idea why his son wasn't at the game.
None of the three have been major contributors this season. Edelin, a junior guard, hadn't played in Syracuse's last seven games. Dayshawn Wright, a freshman forward, had played just seven total minutes in three games since New Year's.
Of the three absentees, Josh Wright, a freshman guard, was the only one seeing significant playing time of late. Wright had stepped into the backup point guard role the last six games after Edelin had not played since the Boston College game on Feb. 19.
On Thursday, the day before the Vermont game, Boeheim was asked if Edelin's absence could be a distraction. Boeheim said, "I don't believe in distractions. That's an excuse losers make."
Three distractions might have been too much for Syracuse.
"We came to play," SU sophomore Terrence Roberts said. "If these guys are here, they're here. If they're not, they're not. This (the loss) has got nothing to do with that."

Don't look now, but the word in the papers has also been that their incoming PG is ineligible and will attend prep school.

tiki mayben. he was suspended from school for an incident on the team bus following the season ending loss in the state playoffs. this is the 3rd year in a row he has been suspended either from school or the team. another great citizen for the syracuse community.
he has not qualified yet, so he might be going prep next year.

Rumor around here is that Josh Wright was too sick to even sit on the bench Friday night (although I don't know why Boeheim wouldn't just say that). the other Wright has grade problems, and edelin has been having the same "personal problems" that caused him to leave the team last year. As for Tiki mayben, that guy is a huge headcase. I heard a brief local interview with him on a local station where he essentially guaranteed that he would lead the Big East in assists next year (not sure who he would pass to that could score except for mcnamara!); as mentioned above, he has had school and team problems for 3 years. He was going to transfer to a private school in the Albany area last year or the year before, but failed the entrance exam, and had to go back to troy High with his tail between his legs. Has not qualified for next year, will probably be a prep schooler.

the josh wright thing is weird. if he was sick, it would make sense if he practiced thursday but wasn't at the arena friday. at the same time, why wouldn't boeheim or josh's dad just say that. there have been rumors here in utica (josh's hometown) for months that he wasn't happy at syracuse. also, it's been rumored that josh and boeheim exchanged words during the uconn game in the big east tourney when josh took a bad shot and jimmy yanked him. who knows though. no one really knows the deal with edelin from last year.

dayshawn wright is a very solid player and the reason tiki maybe is headed there as they are very good friends. So he could be out the door if tiki doesnt qualify. Syracuse really would be loaded with guards next year : GMac, Wright, Mayben and Devendorf. So someone wont be there, if not 2. On a side not, Mayben can be scary good or really bad, some scouts love him and compared him to Telfair others think he is extremely overrated. I played against him in AAU and he is a headcase as him and my friend got into a fight on the court

It had been announced that Edelin was not accompanying the team prior to Syracuse's departure for the regional. He's clearly out the door.

Edelin's been a headache since the day he set foot on campus there. Not at all shocking that he's still having "issues"......

Edelin's been a headache since the day he set foot on campus there. Not at all shocking that he's still having "issues"...... And yet .... he has a national championship ring ... [sigh] . (Ring? Do college players get rings? Hell, I don't know. Either way .... [sigh] ) I might gradually be reaching a tipping point here. On the one hand, I love whenever anything bad happens to Syracuse. I was hoping they'd have a better showing in the tourney, for the sake of the conference, but it's always fun to watch them lose too. Now that that's over, anything that puts them at a disadvantage for next year in the B.E. is swell by me. Also, Edelin's had plenty of opportunity provided to him. On the other hand, its hard to hear bad upon bad upon bad and not start to feel a LITTLE sorry for him. What the hell am I saying? No really, I don't know what's going on with him this year, and I of course want him to always suck as a basketball player, but God, hope he can at least get his life straightened out for himself anyway. But I feel worse for myself than for Billy Edelin. For you see, in this thread, I have heard the three most depressing words ever strung together in the history of the English language: "Here In Utica. . ." (sorry NY; as an Upstater myself, I couldn't resist) ;D

Here comes the lightning bolt..... Yeah, I deserve that. But come on. A little sympathy, right? After all, I felt bad for Lawrence Moten when he was unable to read his own press clippings. I felt bad for LaRon Ellis when his years at Syracuse only brought his dad's car dealership TEMPORARY success. I felt bad for the end of Gerry McNamara's acting career when "Life Goes On" was cancelled. I felt bad for Billy Owens not being able to secure an NBA contract sufficient to meet his cousin's legal defense requirements. And I feel bad for Carmelo Anthony's unfortunate resemblance to many WNBA players. See? We can still hate Syracuse and lament their players' misfortunes at the same time.

I felt bad for the end of Gerry McNamara's acting career when "Life Goes On" was cancelled. On a similar note do you think "Gerry's kids" or whatever his unusual cult-like fan club will be as loyal to him at the next stage and follow him around Finland or Estonia in the European leagues...or do you you think they will adopt the next Great White Hope Davendorf?

Follow up query:
Will Ratboy's senior season be as disappointing or will it surpass even the depth of Chris Thomas'?

And I feel bad for Carmelo Anthony's unfortunate resemblance to many WNBA players. Classic! I was reading on the Syracuse rivals free board that D. Wright had "quit" on his teamates because of a lack of PT he seemed to think he was "entitled" to. Josh Wright was also in cahoots, but also really sick. Finally, Billy Edelin is essentially a doofus of gigantic proportions.

Especially if the team implodes in the offseason. We've lost in OT, on ratboy's buzzer beater and in OT b/c of shoes (true it was away, but still) in my three years here. So we need to play them at MCI and beat them next year. That is all.

sitting next to cuse fans who were very nice in nyc at the garden they said edelin was gone.. hed been saved by boeheim twice.... with his legal and personel problems..... but has been benched since a game where he came outa the came and cursed out boeheim in front of everyone... and then old jimmie had had it after hed tried to help the kid.. sooo they said he would never play at the cuse again... sad for a kid who had lots of talent ..and problems.. at dematha than another prep school and then at syracuse .. go hoyas .. feel sorry for the cuse they are at least a loyal big east team unlike the former bigeast traitors ...who shook hands... and then were tempted by tobacco road.. go hoyas... beat the titans..
