Like everything Pitt's loss to Rutgers could be a blessing or a curse. It could motivate them to avoid going 0-3 and repeating last year's 0-7 start to BE play. Or it could remind them of last year and send them into post tramatic shock and they lose all confidence. Likewise our loss to marquette could destroy our confidence or it could motivate us. I'm hoping we come out and punch pitt in the mouth. We lost @ pitt last year even though they were not a good team. However we caught them at a terrible time. They had just won their first BE game and had just gotten woodall back from injury and we were on the road. That being said they punched us in the mouth and we did not respond. If we punch pitt in the mouth first they will fold and could end up spiraling into another 0-7 BE start. This is our last game vs. Pitt it's one of the most important games of the season for that reason.
In BE play you have to defend your home court and steal a few on the road. We missed our chance for a road win, but we must defend our home court. No loses at home.

Weird to say the second game of the BE season is a must win. But it sure feels like it

we will struggle with their size. If you're III do you start Moses over Hop? We're getting nothing but fouls from Hop. Could the production be any worse?

That is what I can't figure - what we have seen of Hop and Moses warrants a few minutes for the later, though I am certain he is not quite as tight in the G-fensive sets . Sometimes it seems like III is running the largest doghouse in the league and good, hard working guys still can't crack the rotation due despite effort and improvement. A few of our guys never tire, that's great, but from what we are getting at the 5, I don't see keeping it so tight.

Team needs to run. Hoyas closed the Marquette game from the 8:00 media timeout: missed 3, turnover, missed 3, missed jumper, free throws, turnover, layup off steal, missed 3, missed jumper, turnover, missed 3, free throws. That's 0/7 with 3 turnovers in the half court. Same drought happened in the Tennessee game when they get content at the end of a close game to walk the ball up the floor and "run our stuff" in the half court against a good defensive team clamping down in crunch time.

well it was a painful game to be at in milwaukee.. i hope anybody going to this game doesn't experience that haha. this is close to a must win, but i don't think it is a must win. i also don't think we lose to pitt.. we've won 14 in a row at home and pitt has benefited from an extremely weak non conference schedule. i think this game is within 10 points but hoyas win. 64-56 hoyas win is my prediction.

Our guys are young. They are still learning the game and how to play together. We will have growing pains, but I do believe the young guns will figure it out. Hopkins will be fine. He is very athletic, smart, and from all indications, a coachable player. I really do believe we have the right starting five, but we have to be patient. However, I do believe it is very important that we get back in the win column against Pitt.

Rebounding will be key in this game. Pitt always is a great offensive rebounding team. I was really disturbed by our lack of rebounding in the first half considering the pregame interviews coach and players said they emphasized it during the lay off. That was the only alarming thing about the game to me. Now we cleaned it up in the second half and didn't give them second looks, but it was abysmal in the first half. Can't have those lapses. Rebound, outlet, attack.

I agree completely. People can criticize, and I get that we will have to score in the half court in tough situations, but we absolutely must find a way to score quicker. I have absolutely no problem with taking the first good shot. ( Chances are that coach believes the same, but it needs to be executed.) I also get that it means that we will end up playing defense for 45 seconds of every minute, but so what. We need to play to our strengths. We play 30 seconds of good defense, get the ball, and then walk up the court and hold it for 30 seconds.

I also agree with this I think our expectations for this team ramped up over the course of two days in Brooklyn. We really had nothing to lose in those two games. There were no expectations, and we came out loose. But, we are still a very young, untested team, and I think part of our offensive struggles are lack of confidence and inexperience. That's something that we can't kill these guys for right now.

We'll need our fans to come out tomorrow night. Pitt sold all their allotted tickets and then some, and they have almost 500 RSVPs to their pre-game alone. The upper deck is going to be loudly partisan for the Panthers. Let's take care of the lower bowl and 200 level.
Come early, wear gray, GO HOYAS.

Otto, Markel and Greg have stepped up from last year. Nate has not. Hop got little play last year and has not been very effective so far. Jabril brings defensive intensity. DSR is still trying to find his game. No one else seems to be in the rotation. What I would like to see: 1. Hop needs to continue trying to find what works and what does not on offense and needs to crash the boards better. Don't back off. Without Hop's offense we are not in good shape offensively. 2. Moses needs to be given some minutes with the other starters, replacing Hop and/or Nate, to see what he can bring to the table. At the very least, I'd wager he'll grab rebounds. 3. Nate must shoot. 4. Markel should continue doing what he is doing. He's the most pleasant surprise of the year. 5. Otto and Greg must continue doing what they are doing except concentrate more on rebounds. 6. Jabril should continue doing what he is doing and continue to take the open shot when he has it. Also, try more driving to the basket. And keep your attitude. 7. DSR should continue doing what he is doing, accenting working harder to get open shots. 8. Domingo needs to get 5-10 minutes a game since we need better outside scoring and he has the most potential of all the bench to add this. 9. The rest of the bench should get soft cushions since you will rarely be allowed to stand up.

Nate has absolutely stepped up from last season.
Let's try to keep our wide-angle lens spectacles on, please.

Otto and Greg chucked up a number of really ugly shots on Saturday. I hope they'll exercise better judgment against Pitt.

Pitt is 10th in Pomeroy. We are 42nd. Including 156 in offense. Suffice to say, I am nervous about this game.
