He is a really good shooter. The times I've seen him play with his AAU squad he loves to shoot that 16-18 footer from inside the circle. He is a really good offense player but his shot blocking ability is very below average.

No lift and very little explosiveness. I found that somewhat underwhelming.

No lift and very little explosiveness. I found that somewhat underwhelming. He isnt a run and jump guy. He has great offensive ability though. He also is deadly posting up with his automatic right hook shot but if you are looking for a shot blocking eraser thats not him.

Got it, thanks Dense. Rabb would be a good pairing to provide additional athleticism to the front court next year.

No lift and very little explosiveness. I found that somewhat underwhelming. Have to disagree here. I came away very impressed with how comfortable he looks with the ball. For all of you who were sorely disappointed when we lost out on Daniel Ochefu, this kid is better. I think he will be more than serviceable at the 5.

He's also really young. His offensive skillset looks impressive at this stage and he is clearly getting himself into better shape. He's not going to turn into Blake Griffin or something, but there's plenty of time for him to grow into his body and become quicker and more explosive.
I'm very pumped for Jessie. He's going to be a beast for us.

No lift and very little explosiveness. I found that somewhat underwhelming. The kid is a legit 6'11". No need to jump very high to dunk ball in a drill with no defender. I was impressed with his ball handling skills albeit with no defender present, but the dexterity seems to be there. He is 17 and has a chance to get even better for his senior campaign. Roy at seventeen was not as coordinated, nor had the auto jump hook that this kid has. I am excited that the Hoyas have a legitimate back to the basket center for the first time since Roy. Once the strength coach strengthens his lower body he will be able to get rebounds by holding his position and not jumping very high, although I think he can jump from watching other video.

I don't want to quibble too much, because I am pumped about Jessie and he has put up good numbers against good comp this summer. But he was getting no lift on any shot in those clips. Tip toe jump shots, no air under the sneakers. I could see the mobility/agility/physique/touch, which all looked good, but I didn't see much lift/explosiveness/athleticism in that video (not saying it isn't there, but it was clearly not on display). In that regard, it was an underwhelming display of his full skill set.
Even at 6'10", you have to get off the floor to get your shot off, board, and alter shots.
I'm sure he's got the skills, but the video left me wanting...

His mid range shot looked good when I saw him play on those AAU webcasts this summer.

No lift and very little explosiveness. I found that somewhat underwhelming. Consider he's a 6'10" back to the basket big man right now. He's not Hank Sims. For who he is, he can shoot pretty well and handle pretty well. He'll be a load in the middle on most nights.

I am honestly shocked at the amount of heat that Govan is taking for this video. People are lamenting his lack of lift and explosiveness, but in the video, he is literally going up just as high as he needs to to put the ball in the basket (which isn't very high, I was surprised by how long he is). He isn't trying to throw down or show off his explosiveness or even score over a defender. He is going through drills for the sake of fundamentals. Just because he isn't jumping high in a video that was clearly made to showcase his fundamentals and skills rather than his athleticism, does NOT mean that he is incapable of jumping higher and showing more explosiveness when he gets into a real game, especially when he has more than a year to prepare for his first collegiate game.

An actual workout video. That's different. I like the look of this kid. He's got a college body right now even if he does look a bit skinny in the legs. Nothing the weight room and drills like he was doing can't fix. I'm excited to see him in a Georgetown uniform.
