The guy who did a good job of writing the KL reports for Casual Hoya this summer also used one of those reports to mention how he thought Govan, based upon some games he saw on the internet, would neither be ready or capable of manning the paint for the Hoyas in his freshman season. And that led me to wondering how can that guy project where Govan would be in, at that time, 18 month when he would suit up in a Hoya uniform for the first time? I just don't get it. The Hoyas landed a a much desired recruit, a 6-11 Top 40 player with back-to-the basket skills, and a few of us are acting as if he isn't good enough. The program was fortunate to get his commitment.

Govan is going to be awesome. I don't know if he's not hoyatalk's "type" or whether he got lost being so close to Dickerson and Raab news, but this guy is going to be a Hoya stud.

I am honestly shocked at the amount of heat that Govan is taking for this video. People are lamenting his lack of lift and explosiveness, but in the video, he is literally going up just as high as he needs to to put the ball in the basket (which isn't very high, I was surprised by how long he is). He isn't trying to throw down or show off his explosiveness or even score over a defender. He is going through drills for the sake of fundamentals. Just because he isn't jumping high in a video that was clearly made to showcase his fundamentals and skills rather than his athleticism, does NOT mean that he is incapable of jumping higher and showing more explosiveness when he gets into a real game, especially when he has more than a year to prepare for his first collegiate game. This 100 percent ^^^^^ The kid is doing skill work, not trying to stage a dunk contest. So many people in Hoyatalk always want to have something to complain about It's annoying

For the record, I was quite impressed by the video.
Jump hooks with either hand
Mid-range shooter
Improving ball-handler
Most importantly, he's not trying to stage - you know - dunk contests
He's working on his skillset and trying to get better
And yet Hoyatalk sees fit to complain
smh

I think he looks great. Solid skill set for a big man. And he's working hard to get better - keep it up!

He's not expected to man the post from Day 1. Bradley Hayes, who has the same 18 months, is. Govan is expected to be ready to play instead of sitting on the bench for his freshman season (like Bradley). Plus, Rabb is still possible. Too many unexpected things can happen in those 18 months...

Everyone else came to Govans defense..

Yep. Matter of fact, isn't there video of him running the floor well and being more explosive in the middle?

I'm sure he's got the skills, but the video left me wanting... I know I am going to feel the same way about Ender's Game once I rent it.

45. Jessie GOVAN Height: 6’-11” Weight: 266 Position: C Wingspan: 7’-3” 1/2 High School (State): Wings Academy (NY) Club Team (Affiliation): NY Lightning (Nike) Commitment: Georgetown Hoyas Breakdown: Long held as one of the high-potential big men in the 2015 class, Govan continues to improve and develop, and is now certainly one of the elite big men prospects in the ’15 class, and seemingly an ideal commit to Georgetown. Govan issued his pledge to the Hoyas in mid-May, and had a bevy of East Coast powerhouse programs in the hunt for his services, prior to his selection of Georgetown, and their traditional big man factory. As a junior, Govan reportedly averaged a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds per game, and was a second team All-City pick in New York City. He continued his productive track by averaging 14.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League. Govan’s conditioning and skill-level are a work in progress, but his upward trajectory of developing is nothing less than highly promising. He has protypical size and is finding a way to utilize his gifts in an elite fashion. hoopniks.com/2015-post-summer-player-rankings-countdown-45-jessie-govan/

Wings Academy has 6'10" big man Jessie Govan '15 who is already committed to Georgetown, and a coveted prospect in 6'0" point guard Desure Buie '15, and a number of schools have already come to check them both out. Georgetown assistant coach Tavaras Hardy has been in this week to check out Govan,

The games I saw this summer he had very little impact. Looked good on defense but rarely shot the ball or looked to penetrate. Nobody on that team looked like a definite Hi Major to me other than Miller and Govan. No idea of Hoya interest tbh Just posted to show Hardy was up their watching Jessie...

“It’s a big man school,” Govan said at the Big Strick Classic in early August. “It fits my style of play and it’s going to give me the best opportunity to thrive and hopefully get to play in the NBA, which is my goal.” - See more at: www.msgvarsity.com/brooklyn-bronx/nyc-players-to-watch-jessie-govan-1.1623717#sthash.dRbNRr1w.dpufThe attention became greater as Govan played with the New York Lightning 17 and under AAU team during the first live period in April. It took just a few weeks to commit to a Georgetown coaching staff he felt comfortable since making his first visits. “It was being kind of hectic. The first live period, I had a good showing. A lot of colleges were calling and calling and I didn’t want to drag a lot of colleges on,” Govan said. “So I wanted to make it official to commit to Georgetown early and just relax this summer, concentrate on basketball and getting better.” - See more at: www.msgvarsity.com/brooklyn-bronx/nyc-players-to-watch-jessie-govan-1.1623717#sthash.dRbNRr1w.dpuf
