Not a good opening weekend for the BE top 3 plus Pitt. And NC State's upset one-ups WVU's. Not sure what to make of all of this.

I am willing to say that the BE is not the best league in college BB this season. I say that having watched most games in the BET, and I was just not impressed by the level of play. Even looking at the championship, SU did not play a great game, but it was good enough. UCONN is a far cry from a two seed and showed that in the BET with sloppy play against SU and a surprisingly close game against us in the earlier round.
Well, we can cheer for Louisville, Nova (maybe not on that one), and WVU.

With the top of the BE falling out early (and in some cases easily) and the top of the ACC kicking ass (minus Wake), I think all this means is what people have been saying all along all season: the ACC is better at the top, the Big East is better top to bottom. Nothing's changed.

but the acc fans don't think that way. They believe the better conference has the better best team. I hate them

BE is getting destroyed. All our talk re the basketball super league with the new BE seems a bit premature-unfortunately.
It seems that the BE teams as a group don't shoot very well--its not a defensive thing either, they can't seem to kncok down open looks and have very few guys who are a threat from 3

Actually, this is very good news.
It is simply setting the stage for the GEORGETOWN HOYAS to continue their resurgence next season and take the lead in bringing BIG EAST Basketball back to its rightful place atop College Hoops!
JTIII!!!
Jeff Green Jr!!!
Brandon Bowman!!!
Jessie Sapp and the freshmen phenoms!!!
And the fabulous student body support!

That's not what is killing me about the Big East. The problem so far is UConn and 'Cuse rolled over and died. UConn played basketball for 5 minutes and dominated NC State but they lost because they gave no effort for 35 minutes.
Wake, in defeat, showed heart. Downey and Paul kept coming back and coming back and just putting it all out there to try to win that game. But the top two teams in the Big East, 'Cuse and UConn had one player each (Warrick and Williams) that did the same.
The super league is not affected by this though. It's just going to be "two of the last three champs" instead of "the last three champs" on the promotional materials (unless Louisville makes a run).

I like what I'm seeing from Nova though. Maybe they can carry the torch.

Come on guys this is not an indictment of our league, the Big East. N.C. State was a top notch team with a great player that underachieved at the beginning of the season but now is playing its best basketball right now. They beat UCONN. UCONN didn't roll over. They were outplayed and outcoached. As far as Boston College, they were beaten by a team that was better than them. I have never seen a team play defense so intense in a long time like U. Milwalkee Wisconsin did against BC. At points in the game, BC couldn't even dribble the ball up the court because UMW's press was so good. The only real let down was Syracuse. They laid an egg against Vermont.

Nova over UNC next week is all I ask. I don't know WHO to pick in that match-up... I'm still Editeded at the Heels for the '82 title game...and Editeded at 'Nova still for '85... Me and these 20 year grudges...

We beat two Sweet Sixteen teams this year! ;D That is worth repeating. No reason to hang our heads in spite of the slide during the end of the regular season.

The problem with the UConn, Cuse and BC was ball handling. They all turned over the ball as if it carried some deadly disease. Of all the styles of play in the BE the one you didn't see much of was non-stop pressure on the ball. In the cases of BC and Syracuse that hurt them badly. Still Syracuse should not have lost and UConn disappointed me by losing to NC State. Yuck. But if Louisville hangs on and beats GTech that would mean the ACC (if Duke hangs on) can at most only send 2 teams to the Final Four because UNC and NC State are in the same bracket.
