I have read this board just about every day for the past ten years or so, but have never posted anything. I graduated GU in '94. My wife is a teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary and my daughter is a 4th grade student. Both were unharmed on Friday, but I cannot begin to describe what Friday or the aftermath has been like. It has been very comforting though and inspiring to see the outpouring of support which our town has received. I am not surprised to find that that support extends to this forum. Thank you for all the concern which you all have expressed. Thanks for sharing - sorry your family had to go through that. Safe to say, the entire world is with Newtown.

A student on the main campus' mother was a victim. Just shows how you're never too far removed from a tragedy like this.

I wish I could spare the families of those killed the indescribable grief that they are now going through. lic is right. We have to do whatever it takes--whatever it takes--to stop these attacks. My nine year old has been home ill since Thursday, and we have kept this from her. She's been preoccupied with death since we lost my dad, who she was absolutely crazy about, four years ago. I wouldn't even know how to begin to broach a topic like this with her.

false alarm in my town today, apparently a guy with an umbrella! better safe than sorry I guess, but it was raining...

Jolly mack sorry You are lucky, but even the survivors will take lots of time and support to get thru this. The nation tho needs more than just prayers and support. If losing five and six year old doesn' :'(t get us to talk and act. nothing ever will. Condolences to all of Newtown.

Jollymack, you must have been a basket case waiting for news, and your wife and daughter must have been terrified. Condolences to all, your wife must have lost colleagues and students. Your family and all associated with Sandy Hook are in my prayers.

May God continue to bless you and your family. I cant begin to imagine the awful cycle of terror, relief and grief playing out in your town and family.
Over the last two years, I have seen the very best of the human spirit. Your wife and her colleagues showed it again.
God is good. Sometimes mystifying and inscrutable, but always good. I will add your family and friends to my prayers anx will ask my son to do so as well.

Thank you to all who have offered kind words. Thanks in particular to CTHoya08 for sharing the piece from The Hoya-- it provided a very spot-on portrait of the town I so love. The world has reached out to us all and has provided true inspiration during this most difficult of times. God bless you all!
