I suppose that all depends on if he's willing to get in shape if someone kicks his ass. He clearly won't do it on his own and howland wasn't able to get him to. I don't know what his mind set is. Is he looking for a coach that will get him in shape and allow him to reach his potential or is he looking for the easy route where he can pudge up and still play? The answer to that question should determine whether or not he receives any interest from us.

By all accounts he's a good kid who has been battling his weight. I'd defintely consider bringing him on board.

Of course he is a good kid. But he had a great opportunity. He screwed it up. Ok had the chance this year to make amends... What did he do? Ate his way to the bench and transferred out.
He will get himself in some type of shape, declare for the draft, go in the second round, get cut by New Orleans, spend half a year in the D and then float from Belgium, Finland and Estonia.

Not saying I want him, but let's cut him some slack. He was obviously in a very toxic, unhelpful situation at UCLA. It has become evident that Howland has little to no control over that program, and that he probably wasn't effective in influencing Josh to stay in shape.

Absolutely not. How would a guy his size work in our offense? Do you want to see Josh Smith with the ball at the top of the key needing to put the ball on the floor?

Seems like he doesn't even have to bother living the next 10 years. You've got them all mapped out for him.

I regret having asked this question on this board. I should have known better. I think most of us would happily welcome him to the program if he chose to come. FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised if we reach out to him.

Do these sound like the actions of a man whose had ALL he could eat??

As someone who has most likely watched Smith play more frequently than the vast majority of people on this board, I say pass. I wish him well, but the risk is just too high. Plus, I agree with the comments that he's not a fit in the offense.

Crazy if true. Not sure if its good or bad for us. Seems like he'd have to do an awful lot to be ready to play for us.

Does he have any cred where I should be believing this?

interesting....good get if he actually commits to getting in shape. If not....well....we'll have to have other options ready. Definitely a gamble, but one that could pay off big (no pun intended) in the end

Does he have any cred where I should be believing this? Not sure whether its a done deal....but like I said, this would not surprise me at all.
