Donavan commenting on player performances from last night.. This one is regarding Mike Rosario “Yeah, I don’t think he really played very well at all. For some reason, I think he thinks his foot is part of his hand when he dribbles. He kicks it off his foot all the time. He turns it over way too much and he’s way too careless with the ball,” Donovan said. “I think Mike tried today, but when he’s turning the ball over like that and we’re getting his liability on defense… I thought he tried on defense, but he’s got to get better there. He’s giving me a much better effort than he has in the past, but I thought he was just OK today [defensively].” Rosario started for Florida but will have to prove in practice over the next week that he deserves to remain in that role. Otherwise Donovan could pull the trigger quickly and go with another player at the small forward position Read more: www.onlygators.com/tag/mike-rosario/#ixzz2B65EYDBt ONLY GATORS Get Out Alive

That's the plan. Don't think anyone is going to get there anytime soon though. Given the "guaranteed" 32 games this year (30 RS games + 1 BET + 1 assumed post season game of some sort) Otto would need to average 21.25/night to break 1000 this year. So yeah, not real likely. (sorry for the hijacking this thread, but didn't want to spoil the sanctity/continuity of the "countdown" thread)

Wouldnt be too surprising to see us go small to match their lineup and come out: Starks Trawick (or DSR) Otto Mikael Lubcik We would definitely start whittingington in that case and sit either one of lubick or trawick. Otto can guard murphy

I would be disappointed if we went small to match them. Make them adjust to us. Even if that 'big' lineup plays man - Wilbekin/Rosario/Boynton are not great off the dribble. I think Greg can play off Boynton and give him room but still with the ability to close out and contest.
I imagine we do play a decent amount of 2-3, though.

Why would we go small to match up with them, when our bigger lineup is still more athletic than theirs on the perimeter?

There would be no reason to go small. One of our team's consistent strength's last year (and why, in my opinion, we were better and more consistent than some other recent teams) was defense, and that was because of the large lineups we put out there. Whittington is also too strong a player not to have him in there for most of the game, regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench (in my mind, he'll definitely start).
I fully expect DSR to contribute significantly this year, but not as a starter for this first game. I think the Starks-Whittington-Porter-Lubick-Hopkins lineup will get a try, and John Thompson III will go from there. If either Starks or Lubick falter, I'd expect John Thompson III will adjust minutes and use the bench, like he did last year.

Well of course its more likely to start our best 5, but Boynton and Rosario aren't chopped liver. It's going to be challenging/tiring to try and stay in front of them either way. I doubt we stay in man very long anyway. Oh and I don't know you and you don't know me, so can we keep personal attacks to a minimum? I find it pretty silly and quite immature to question what team I do or don't follow because I can't remember if it was the first game or the 5th that Otto started. Trawick is a good defender but I think Whitt is better and his length would make things difficult for a smaller guard. it wasn't a personal attack, it was a legitimate question. I'm sorry you felt offended by it. I just figured that people who post on this board at least know what our starting lineups usually look like. Otto didn't start until a handful of games at the end of the season. I obviously don't expect every Hoya fan to know every detail about the team but that fact that Otto wasn't a starter for the vast majority of the season yet played starters minutes is fairly common knowledge.

UF's guards are quick, but small and Hoyas' length should give them problems at every position, but especially out top. Make Rosario and Boyton take bad shots from deep...oh wait, they do that anyway. Will be tough, but this could be the first "upset" of the year.

Florida did lose a 4-year starter at point, right? The Hoyas should look to test whoever is new at filling the role.

Would there even be a point of us playing on an aircraft carrier if it wasn't even going to be televised? Not trying to sound like a jerk just sayin.

I believe the Marquette vs Ohio State game is on NBC Sports at 7:00pm followed by the Hoyas and Gators at 9:00pm.

Game of two good programs 1) Georgetown.... an outstanding programs in college basketball. Year after year competing for conference and NCAA championships. Plays in the best basketball conference. 2) Florida.... a consistently good program with some NCAA success. Plays in a conference where football is #1.

Never been one to get into "rankings" but was glancing at the Basketball Times Preview Issue and was shocked to see Hoyas rated 13th---in the Big East. I didn't expect them to be ranked in their top 15 (they only go top 15) but 13th in the conference? That's ridiculous.

The key will be avoiding "the drought", that 5-7 minute stretch we seem to have where we go 0-4 with 3 turnovers. Florida will score, I can guarantee that. So a drought that we get away with as a 7-0 run, could be a 14-0 run and a killer against Florida.
I would like to see the Hoyas confidently take the first open look on offense. I actually fear overpassing in this game almost as much as the regular growing pains. On defense, this is the game to test out the hoyas' ability to close out on shooters.
Of course, I wouldn't mind a stiff wind bailing us out if we don't.
