John Thompson always kept a deflated basketball on his desk in his Georgetown office, a reminder to his recruits of the fragility of life playing basketball.
"It's useless without 9 pounds of air," Thompson said. "Now, do you want to pin your future on 9 pounds of air? Make sure when you no longer have basketball, you have a future. Get an education."
