Norv Turner, what the heck was that?? Someone please explain to me again how this man still has a head coaching job in the NFL. As a lifelong Chargers fan...I still have no idea how he even got the head coaching job.

Fail often enough at something and people will eventually come around to grading you on effort instead of results.

As Charger head coach he has 52-34 record. Many franchises would consider that success.

As Charger head coach he has 52-34 record. Many franchises would consider that success. Fair point. The problem, though, is that the Chargers have failed to meet expectations in every year but one during Norv's time as coach. We'll see how this season plays out. And I agree with Sir Saxa. Norv was a terrific coordinator, but he's risen to the level of his incompetence.

As Charger head coach he has 52-34 record. Many franchises would consider that success. Context is everything. In 2002, Marty Schottenheimer came in to a team that had gone 1-15 and 5-11 the previous two seasons. John Butler was the GM; Buddy Nix was director of player personnel. Marty took an improving team and over five seasons, led them to a 47-33 record. His final season the Chargers went 14-2. He could have been fired for his 0-2 playoff record, but he wasn't. He was fired because he and new GM AJ Smith didn't get along. Butler had died of cancer and Buddy Nix had left. Turner was hired to coach an extremely talented team. Over five years he went 49-31 with a similar number of playoff disappointments, really. And repeated chokings, loss of focus and underacheiving. The 2008 8-8 season is particularly tough to take. Yet he -- and AJ -- are still around. The talent level has dropped, so it Norv churns out another 9-7 season in an awful division it won't be his worst effort. But he squandered the prime of an extremely talented team and yet we still have the man that squandered that talent and the man who has let the talent level slip.

Big game for the Ravens this weekend. Can they beat a Steelers team missing Big Ben?

Brady v Sanchez and RG III v Romo = less time I have to be nice and talk to the outlaws. Good games, better excuse.

Big game for the Ravens this weekend. Can they beat a Steelers team missing Big Ben? Yes. I think they can. ;D As for you, Mass, I am not sure those are gonna' be what I'd call "good" games. Much as I'd like to see the upset, Brady is going to stomp the Jets and their two non-quarterbacks. Boys-Skins is always entertaining, true, but I'm not sure of the quality of play in that one. I think the best game might be Houston-Detroit. I don't expect Detroit to be able to win it, but I think they can score on the Texans.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict a Lion victory. They do come up big on Thanksgiving from time to time, and I have a feeling this is going to be one of those times.
Now watch the Texans win 38-7.

Should have been for the lions except for Foster's odd TD run. I don't understand how throwing an illegal review flag stopped the auto-review on touchdowns

If Schwartz hadn't screwed up, that "TD" would have been overturned.

If Schwartz hadn't screwed up, that "TD" would have been overturned. I don't get this at all. OK, sure, Schwartz screwed up and shouldn't have thrown the challenge flag. If that is a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, so be it. But why does that negate the obligation to review a scoring play? "Oh! You can't throw that flag. Now we're not going to review the actual play. Nyah, nyah, nyah!" That about sums it up for me and it makes no sense. Should've been Houston ball +15 yards for Schwartz's penalty. Anything else is ridiculous and "replacement ref" caliber.

Nothing about this rule makes sense. It should be repealed or, at worst, modified. But it's still on the coach to know the rules and not hand the opponents a touchdown, no matter how bad the rule is.

it is a shame the vikings are wasting AD's best years by surrounding him with inept QB's.
