Roy definitely was tentative last night. He got his shot blocked a couple of times and will really need to develop some explosion to the hoop for next year. I felt like he and Cornelio are very similar except Roy has five more inches and a more solid frame.
I also don't think it helps when everyone screams for you to shoot every time you touch the ball. I haven't seen this happen as much as it did last night. That couldn't have helped his offensive confidence.
Also, how did BU take BC to the final couple of minutes? Physically they just were not big enough.

Roy was pretty scary to watch last night. Why the ball ever comes below his head when a guy about 6-6 is guarding him boggles my mind. He should have just been able to pivot and lay it in over the guy.
Then to see him try to dribble and get stripped or shoot and get his shot blocked... wow... I hope Ewing pounds him into the ground this summer and teaches him some skillz.

Physically they just were not big enough. Roy's been on and off all year. He's had some quality games (he won ROW remember?) and some where the 18 year old kid has shown through. Tonight was not one of his better nights, but when he adds some more muscle, gets some hops (I'm not sure he could get rim if he was 6'5) and continues working on his post moves over the summer, he'll definately be a quality big man next year. On the yelling for him to shoot, I don't think it's that big of a deal, especially because I got the feeling that when he was in there, they were running sets designed for him to shoot. He's a project with a HUUUUUGE upside and JT3 recognizes that and is trying to make sure he gets as much time on the court as he can get (and he's shown a lot of improvement).

Didn't you feel like they should have forced Roy to make some offensive moves? We were up 20 at that point and although it may have been too early on to abandon our strategy, I wanted to see JTIII force Roy to be assertive.

He took 6 shots in 15 minutes, so it seems like he made some moves. I definately remember him trying to get to the basket, but it was just kinda ugly for him last night. It was an off night for him in the post. The thing is, I get the feeling that while he has 4+ inches on most guys, he isn't as strong as the guys guarding him, so they can push him around. Then again, he grabbed 5 boards as well and only had one turnover. Not his best night, but not exactly a reason to compare him to Cornelio. And I'm not sure how exactly JT3 is supposed to force him to be assertive aside from making sure he gets the ball?

I've done some prelim statistical analysis on the BE season that I'll post sooner or later, and one thing we don't have to worry about is Roy shooting or playmaking while he's in. I think on a per minute/possession basis he's more active than Jeff or Brandon.

I'm not surprised by Roy being up and down but I'm quite happy with his play this year and expect to see him make progress--he's very hard worker and most of the team has improved individually and as a team. This club is so much better now compared to the opening game against Temple and that's an aspect that has me pleased.
I think Roy's focus should be on improving his footwork and you can do that by jumping rope, and shuttle drills where you work on quickness in short space. Most of all he just has to play over the summer and develop. With weight training he'll get stronger and that will help his quickness too.
One thing about Roy is that with size comes expectations. And while he needed some work in areas and against teams like UConn he struggled holding onto the ball, he'd also have a play like his only hoop against UConn in BET and it was unreal for a 7'2 player--handle, spin dribble and layin without charging. That was a very skilled play and something not many 7'0 players can do period. So the ability is there, just needs to get stronger and work on footwork--something all players have to do but with Roy it should be forearm work and strengthing his hands so he's strong with ball.
Proud of Big Roy though and will be pulling for him.

I'll wager he'll be the league's most improved player next year...

And I suspect you could add way more likely to turn the ball over.

I don't have to watch game film and chart movement without the ball. The complaint (I think) was that we didn't get the ball to Roy enough when he was in. We do.
