Very sad to hear of the untimely passing of one of the under-appreciated Hoya greats. Played in the NIT game as a soph and was the only quality player left on the infamous 3-23 team from 1972. He maintained a competitive attitude throughout that ordeal. And he was only 62.
DFW, thank you for posting this sad news. But I must admit, I was quite startled to read it this morning. Great guy. Great Hoya. Mike graduated in 1972, but I always wished he could have stayed one more year to play during the first year of the JT2 era and to lend his experience and perspective to that freshman oriented team. RIP

Sorry to hear this news. The only game I saw in which he played was the NIT game vs LSU and Pistol Pete. Wonderful game, but tough loss. May Mike, too young, RIP.

Great player and a good guy. Always a competitor and a gentleman at the same time. Knew him back in the day. Condolences to the family.

Thanks for posting, DFW. I had been reluctant to share this news on HT the last few days out of respect for his family. Before I knew him as an all-time Hoya great, he was, more importantly, a father to a friend and a genuinely nice man. He will be missed.

Hate to sound insensitive, but any word on the cause of death? He was only in his early sixties.
And of course, I echo everything already said here.

This is so sad - Mike was a ROCK of a player and teammate, but gentle and gentlemanly as they come off the court. He is the one player from our era that could have been an impact player in today's game.

From what I've read, sounds as if you could have been an impact player today, too!

Yes, remember him well from the 3-23 team. Agree with Sir Saxa...Always wondered what it would have been like if he had one more year of eligibility and was able to play with Merlin Wilson, Gregory Brooks, Jonathan Smith, and the rest of JT Jr.'s first team in 1972-73. He was the quintessential power forward....
