I hope the staff doesn't take another "project" big by getting Meeks. I admit I don't follow recruiting as closely as many do, but you are being sarcastic, right?

the only place i see Meeks as being considered a project is his conditioning. This scares me alot about the young man. He says all the right things, but the proof has to be in results. Has he dropped any more weight this summer any of the gurus know?

Not being sarcastic at all Spirit, the youngster is skilled but his weight issues make him a project imho. As Hoyasarehungry posted, Meeks says the right things but he always looks the same on and off the court to me.

Meeks is going to go to UNC and he's going to struggle because of his lack of endurance.

I'll take a second Sweets with the passing/outlet ability of a Greg/KLove hybrid all day, everyday.

Meeks isn't like Michael Sweetney.
Bad comparison.

Neither is he a hybrid of Greg/Klove. I think this board is really overhyping him

I disagree Cosmo I think the majority of the board knows what we would be getting in Meeks. A skilled big who is an adept passer, has a nice touch, and is a good rebounder. Obviously we are aware of his weight issues but the hope is once he gets into a real strength and conditioning program hopefully he sheds some of those lbs for muscle.. See Tyler Addams… Even if he lost the weight he will always probably be a BTR player
The fact is none of the kids are the perfect prospect, all of them have holes in their game… My biggest concern with Meeks is what can he bring us on the defensive side besides Rebounding...

Over the years, I've found the most reliable way to determine how good a recruit might be was not the ranking numbers or expert opinions. The most reliable method is to look at who else is recruiting a kid. (Of course, like everything, there are exceptions. Otto Porter was not pursued by myriad top schools -- but that's because he never played AAU and came from a small town in MO). Back to the point, according to Rivals: Meeks said Georgetown, North Carolina, N.C. State, Louisville, Indiana, Kentucky and Syracuse are the schools he's hearing from the most.

Disagree - JG, Hibbert, Wallace, etc. from our 2007 FF4 teams were not really recruited by top tier programs. We all know that JG was top 5 pick and Hibbert is an all-star now in the NBA. Only player that meets your description is Greg Monroe, but our program flopped even with him. I am a firm believer that Gtown succeeds better with a lot of the 3-4 star sleeper guys with a high bball IQ and size, reason why I really do like last year's freshman class. With that said, although Meeks has the size and skills to be successful in high school, I don't really see him doing well in the B-East. He is big, but he is def. not as strong as Dajuan Blair, who just pushed people around in spite of his short height. Kid def has the potential if he works hard, but that's applicable to so many other kids as well.

Davanta Gardner?? He averaged 10 and 5 for Marquette last year. Is anybody willing to say any of our bigs can give us that this year? I mean I don’t see how if he can be effective in the BE Meeks cannot. It’s simply difficult to move a 290 pound man no matter how strong he is. Now defensively he would struggle just like Gardner would.
That being said I like versatile players that can play both sides as well, but I think he will be effective..

I do not place as high a value on rankings as many posters do, but Meeks at #13 in the ESPN rankings hardly sounds like a project. As well, like SirSaxa intimated, so many top flight schools recruiting a kid would appear to indicate that he is more than a project. Finally, in the Meeks thread, the write ups certainly do not make him appear to be a project. I guess I am just totally confused when there is such a huge difference in opinion by our posters on Meeks, given what I have read about him.

POD is probably right about Peters being behind Agau and Meeks but taking that out of the equation, if Peters is a legit 6’4 than even if he could only play off ball that’s still good size for a SG. Usually Combo’s are undersized SG’s that are trying to transition to the point but lack the playmaking instincts in the 6’0 to 6’2 range. We’re talking about a 6’4 kid which to me makes him more intriguing. Either way Peters =DC Assault = Curtis Malone = Under Amour = Maryland IMO But if we're going for combo guards, Hart is in front of Peters on the board. He dropped us, so I'm figuring we're not pursuing him or Peters very hard right now. I love that you know which prospects are ahead of others on the staff's recruiting board. Look we get it you love hart and you don't care for Peters. That doesn't mean that that's the way the staff feels.
