Six Hoyas on the track today. The three above plus Maggie Infeld (2nd heat) and Renee Tomlin (3rd heat) of the 1500m prelims and London Finley (how is that name for this year's Olympics) in the 3rd heat of the 400m hurdles.

Here are the letsrun.com predictions in the women's 5000m:
Updated LRC Prediction: The pace isn't very hot.
1) Lucas 2) Huddle 3) Maloy
They didn't say anything about Emily in their writeup. I think Emily could be top three, but I don't know if the race in which she would be top three could be fast enough to get her the A standard. Liz already as the A standard, so she should be there whether the pace is fast or slow.

Okay, there are NINE Hoyas running today; I missed Liam Boylan-Pett running the 1500m after running in the 800m trials and Treniere Clement Moser also running the 1500m.

It's been a long and great season for London Finley in the 400H. Unfortunately, a little too long as she was caught in her blocks (worse reaction time of all, and double of some) and did not automatically qualify or qualify on time. Her season's best would have moved her on.

Emily and Liz finished right next to each other. Unfortunately it was not 1,2 or 2,3. I thought both had a great chance to make the team, but it wasn't to be. I did not see the race. Anybody here see it live? Who took it out? It was fast enough that the first five finishers made the standard.

Very close for third and the last spot on the team.
Well, it was a great year for Emily and Liz will probably go over to Europe and run some races there.

I just watched. With two laps to go (about, it was at the like 13 min mark), Julia Lucas went out quick. That split the pack and both Gtown runners were able be in the top group. But at the one lap to go mark, Culley and Huddle picked it up again and that strung out the group. They caught lucas who faded in the final straight.
The irony, as pointed out by the TV crew, is that if Lucas had just stayed with the pack she probably would have made the team because she already has the A standard.

Thanks, jgalt.
In the men's race Bumbi finished in the worst spot (as I was afraid), 4th place. But, since he has the A standard, he becomes the first alternate. Last year he was also the first alternate and he got to go to the Worlds, when Chris Solinsky got injured.

Jgalt, how did the men's race go?

In the mens, lagat and another runner (dont know who) went out ahead pretty early but were only about 20 yards in front. Then the pace quickened with 2 laps to go and Lagat and the other guy got caught, but the pace was starting to spread everyone out. It was clear by this time that the top four were faster than everyone else. In the last lap, Rupp started to move to the front and into first in a pack of Rupp, Lomong, Lagat, Bumbalough (in that order, I think).
They started to kick with about 200 to go and those four got strung out. Bumbalough was cuaght behind Lomong, but it was clear by the end of the turn Rupp and Lagat had the energy to really take the last 100 while Lamong and Bumbalough didnt.
Rupp was in the lead with about 50 to go and got passed by Lagat, BUT was able to take back first in the final meters. They had a shot from the finish line back and you could see the look on Bumbaloughs face, knowing he wasnt going to catch Lamong for third, but enjoying the race he had a front row seat for. Rupp broke Pre's olympic trials record too.
It was a pretty exciting race except for Bumbalough not making it.

Thanks. If Rupp decides not to run both the 10000m and 5000m, then Bumbi would go. Unfortunately for Bumbi, the 10000m is first, so Rupp would have nothing to lose running the 5000m too. However, if he wins a medal, maybe that would satisfy him;-)

Liz, Emily and Bumbi all ran solid races, they just came up a little bit short. Great season for all three.

i saw both live and both races were really exciting, photo finish for the women and the mens almost was too. Emily seemed to be stuck in the back of the pack for most of the race and i was surprised when she popped up next to Liz with about 3 laps to go
