Parents of the Year...LOL. Maybe we should have a contest between Jeff Green's parents and Cook/Bowman's parents

Many, many congratulations to you, Jeff, for a great season. You have represented your family, your school and yourself with class. Keep it up. Looking forward to you, Brandon and others leading us to even greater heights next year.

WOw. I'm frankly stunned he won. Not tha the didn't deserve to win, but if you spent 10 seconds listening to ESPN you KNEW that the ONLY guy in America who could have won this awards was Marvin Williams at NC or at the worst case Gay at UCONN.
Nice to see a source look at the relative impact on the team that a freshman has. Green wins that analysis hands down.
This is also a GREAT recruiting tool for JTIII. For the next couple of years he can say I groomed the National and Big East Rookie of the Year.
It justifies the offense we run and gives JTIII a ton of credibility in terms of playing freshmen for 35+ minutes.
Plus, Green will be a great selling point to the potential recruits.

Good to see him get the credit he deserves. This is yet another blow to the Terps who passed on Jeff for Gist.

Good to see him get the credit he deserves. This is yet another blow to the Terps who passed on Jeff for Gist. Hey, Gist is not a bad player. The kid has a bright future. He is raw right now. He is not Jeff Green. But he is a good player. But a lot of times recruiters are just like the average joe the fan. They get caught up in press-clippings, and rankings, and don't solely go by what players do in a game. Jeff didn't have the buzz around him, even though he was a heck of a player in high school.

Correction, Jeff HAD ALL the local buzz, Gist HAD ALL the national buzz...it was certainly a weird difference of opinion.

I'm talking about before Jeff's senior year when he was already signed to G'town. Jeff was under the radar his junior year. I know the local area. Gay HAD ALL the buzz. Gist had a few mentions. Green was rarely ever mentioned. His senior year, Jeff got pub, because his team did well and won the state championship.

This may be a stupid question, but is this the "official" national freshman of the year award?
Either way, though, congrats to Jeff for a great year (and hopefully the "year" continues another couple weeks all the way to NYC!)

But by senior year, Jeff was a crown jewel in the local scene and there were fierce debates about who was the best Green, Gay or Gist...

I think its the "college insiders" freshman of the year. Its not the big National award everyone recognizes, the one Lawerence Moten from Syracuse and Joe Smith from Maryland won.

Just as clarification - Jeff committed during his senior year, relatively near the signing date.
Jeff blew up locally during the summer after his junior year. Gist committed to Maryland during the summer, I think.

Let's continue on and hope Jeff can explode over the next couple of weeks and lock up the NIT MVP.

He looked great last night. Early on when we were even, I was wondering if our team was going to notice that Jeff had three dunks? The second he started to assert himself, the game took off. We need either he or Brandon to do this every game.
I think that is why we played UConn so tough is that Brandon started us off on the right foot. Last night was great to see because we haven't exactly put away teams all year long.
