www.zagsblog.com/2012/05/09/georgetown-signs-6-11-b-j-hayes/Hayes has flown under the radar for a guy this big and athletic, mostly because he grew seven inches in the last year. So he moves a bit more like a smaller player but now has the height of a 6'11" guy. He has NBA potential and he's come to Big Man U. Welcome, Brad! I love this signing, because after watching the Greg Monroe/Wright/Freeman era under-perform mostly because of lack of even solid frontcourt options or depth, we have a really freaking long team built to sustain a strong frontcourt for years. But more importantly, there's a huge gap in a 6'8" or 6'9" center's effect on the defense and a 6'11" center's effect. The recruiting board has more. hoyatalk2.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=recruit&thread=25674&page=16#499204

How are Starks' and DSR's growth plates? Actually, how are Bradley's? 7 inches in the last year! He could break 7ft before he gets here. Again, welcome to the hilltop Bradley! Time to work hard and learn how to operate on the low post. Keep your passing instincts from your shorter/ball handling days and grow at BigManU.

Bowen perhaps putting to rest speculation about his future:
Aaron Bowen @a_Bowen23
me and the big homie Bradley Hayes is going to be holding it down for the 904 next year welcome to the family.

Hayes doesn't turn 18 until August, so who knows... maybe those growth plates are indeed still open. I agree with SF here: "But more importantly, there's a huge gap in a 6'8" or 6'9" center's effect on the defense and a 6'11" center's effect." Even if it takes him some time to develop offensively, he could still be very valuable on the defensive end. I think people tend to overvalue the importance of offense when evaluating recruits - defense is still half the game. Excited for the era of Georgetown tall ball.

Welcome to Georgetown Bradley Hayes, your career can be whatever you want it to be here at BIG MAN U.
Great job by the staff, cannot say they haven't worked their tail off this spring. Glad to see the hard work paid off for them.

Didn't JYD have a similar story about growing a ridiculous amount in his late teens?

Good, not giving up on AB becoming a contributor. Losing practically all of his first year certainly hampered his development, hopefully he can give us something next season as a shooter and use his athleticism on both ends.

Didn't JYD have a similar story about growing a ridiculous amount in his late teens? I think it happened to him in college, actually, which is why he was not recruited to any big schools at all. Or maybe just right before. Scottie Pippen is another famous story, and of course, Anthony Davis.

Welcome to the Hilltop!
I'm shocked Lic hasn't commented on his growth plates yet.

Congratulations to him and his family.
Mikael showed a lot of skill and intangibles in his freshman year, and Nate has had some positive moments, but I would say that it should be a 100% open competition among Mikael, Nate, Moses, Tyler and Bolden for playing time in the frontcourt. None of these guys have proven anything really. Any of them can be a starter and any of them can be the 11th man off the bench depending on how the competition shakes out. Usually, this is a good thing.

Usually, this is a good thing. There will be six players vying for time at two positions. Given JT III's track record, a couple of them are likely to sit most of the year. Hopefully they are all good with that. I hope that this signing means that Otto and Greg will spend their time developing at the 2-3 positions, where each is more likely to have a shot at the next level. Suddenly, this team is not only huge in the frontcourt but also in the backcourt.

Welcome to the Hilltop Bradley. Hayes is athletic and mobile. Still needs work on his offensive game but it will come. Reminds me a bit of Thomas Robinson from Kansas in the way he moves on the court. Let's hope he develops into a compelte player. He picked the right school for that and at 18 has plenty of time to get his act together. 6'11'' sounds nice doesn't it?
