At least an inquiry... twitter.com/#!/PeteThamelNYT/status/200055727128199168 www.nytimes.com/2012/05/09/sports/basketball/nerlens-noel-kentucky-recruit-attracts-ncaa-inquiry.html?ref=sportsWho wants to bet the NYT editors cut the following graph at the last minute: Noel was heavily rumored to be set to pick Georgetown, but ultimately chose to join up with the Wildcats, defending national champions. Since losing out -- in dramatic fashion -- on the top recruit in the nation, the Hoyas have promoted Kevin Broadus from special assistant to full assistant coach. Broadus, the former head coach at Binghamton, was a Georgetown assistant once before, earning a reputation for his ability to recruit academically at-risk players from so-called diploma mills. EDITED because my attempt at fiction was too easily taken as fact. (It just seems so realistic!)

Wow, glad to see that Thamel included the Errol Randolph/ASM thing. This could get interesting.

Seems like somebody is finally listening to RDF's info...
... and I think HoyaLS05's Broadus paragraph above is something Thamel recites to himself every night before he goes to sleep, but in this context is just a clever slap at him.

Maybe Broadus is like the CIA informant from the recent airplane bomb plot. He can infiltrate Calipari's ring and expose it.

NCAA at least went to the right people if they want to find something (for Nerlens' sake I hope they don't. Find a way to punish the grown men, not the kid). Also nice to see Thamel finally recognize Randolph in this, even though he knew all along he was involved.
However, not going to find anything with how his travels were financed. Straight cash homie.

Aah, but can you buy a plane ticket in cash these days? And if you gave Noel (or the family) cash to reimburse the cost, that would show up in a bank statement some where. We shall see. I agree that it would suck if Noel is the one who gets punished. But if it is for receiving money for a plane ticket, he may only get 10 games like many Euro kids have been getting (Festis Ezili for example). If there is a clear UK connection to the money, than maybe a year like with Kantor. Either way he still goes to the NBA after one year, so it wont hurt too much. Also Thamel talks about Randolph but still doesnt mention that Randolph is a huge Cuse fan and booster.

Thamel is a hack piece of dog ****. He mentions Randolph's ties to ASM-but he didn't when Syracuse was involved--and Syracuse bull**** is all over Randolph's social media sites. He accompanied him on his visits to Syracuse-and also brought along Noel's best friend (Goodluck Okonoboh) and the infamous visit to Miami to Randolph's place in Miami. He also didn't reference the dirt that ASM does--which Thamel wrote about in April of 2011 with Kevin Ware's recruitment.
I'd punish the adults, and let the kid play--the kids are pawns in this crap and used and abused.
As for "my info"--I got a TON of help and some great links/tips to go on the warpath. Still awaiting Pete Thamel's response to my email and specific Syracuse related questions. He's after anyone but his alma mater and amazing how he goes silent when they have crap hit the fan. Hack journalism at it's best.

The comment section after his piece would be a good place to post some of the information, by the way, as long as he keeps ignoring it. EDIT: The NYT apparently doesn't stoop to having comment sections for its online articles.

"Cindi Merrill and Frank Smith, assistant directors of enforcement with the N.C.A.A., went to Everett High School on Tuesday to meet with school officials about the 6-foot-10 Noel, who spent his freshman and sophomore years there. Merrill and Smith specialize in basketball-related issues." What insightful reporting. I think he could have assumed the reader would assume they didn't specialize in water polo.

On a side note I don’t know how any African American Parent let’s their child play at “Adolph Rupp Arena” How do you spell racist? R U P P I would think twice about tossing out judgments like this. Having heard the same nonsense thrown Georgetown's way, it has no place in a civil conversation. As to Rupp, I would say he was more of a coward. He expressed concerns that the UK fan base was not ready for a desegregated team and was not willing to put his popularity and/or job on the line to do it. It was only when Louisville began to excel with a desegregated team and other SEC teams began to add African American players, Rupp did too. www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/rupp.html

Nothing would make me happier than for something to ACTUALLY come of this. It has nothing to do with Noel "choosing" a different school. It is the greater problem that exists in coll bball these days. It makes me sick. And I'm sorry to say that these kids have 0 idea what's going on..is a bit of a stretch.... "Oh i had no idea accepting money to go on a plane trip was not on the up and up" please. Driscoll orchestrated that whole "decision .005" and leaked the choice was Gtown. You can't tell me that Noel didn't participate in some way
