I was wondering why more people are not disappointed in the current marketing of the G'Town Brand. I am a 38 year old black male who became a fan during the early eighties when my father sat me down and made me watched "that strong black man coach that catholic school". During the 80's the hoyas personified cool. I feel like there are other men of my generation who have now achieved a certian level of wealth and would be willing to rock the flyest Hoya gear but the current gear is rather uncool. Any thoughts?

usafahoya.... right on! I am a 67 year old Black man. Most of my basketball gear is Hoya gear. It was in the late 90s that Georgetown merchandise was the hottest seller. If you would notice young Black boys in any inner-city you would see someone wearing Hoya shirts or caps. John Thompson remains a man that I admire and respect tremendously. I fantasize of the Georgetown name once again resonating as one of the premiere programs in college basketball.

I dont have much to say, except that Gtown has totally failed in this arena and think this could be an interesting discussion.

A few years ago a French Au pair told me the bulldog logo is widely recognized in Europe - though some don't know what school or why

Yeah, but so is Franklin and Marshall and you don't see the Diplomats reaping any rewards from that.

It's mainly up to what Nike wants to sell. They sold us out this year with all the major teams having gray uniforms in BB. CUSE in gray uniforms?, come on. There is nothing unique about our gear any more

I'm an old white guy and the selection of Hoya gear is awful. Don't know if I'm looking for the same stuff as the others in this thread but the selection of clothing, whether its polos, tee shirts, etc. is really lacking if you are looking for stuff you can wear on an everyday basis. They've had the same crappy Antigua white polo shirt for 10 years. I've even resorted to going online to find GU logo patches I can buy to put on better quality shirts I can get at places like Costco. etc. I was on campus a few weeks ago and could not find one thing in the Bookstore that I wanted to buy - and I was a very motivated buyer looking to part with some $$$.

What the heck is the state university of New Jersey? Not sure many of those Block "R" Rutgers shirts say state university of NJ. Totally agree on all fronts about GU gear. I often force myself to buy something when I take a trip down to campus, almost never because I want to buy something. You would think that we could get Nike to do some creative things, if not, switch sides and go with a company (adidas?) that will try.

I'm a 28 year old African american male and I stocked up on the Jordan "Georgetown Basketball - China" gear this summer. In my opinion, very very fresh.

Let's face it. There are two types of Gtown Hoyas fan. One who thinks of Gtown more or less as their pro team and who wants more of a professional basketball look that trends toward the urban in style. And then there is the alumni base who look at the team as an extension of the unversity first and formeost and want something far more collegiate to reflect that. I tend towards the latter but sometimes the former when properly done works for me too.
The problem is any type of move strongly in one direction will put off the other group. But generally speaking both are availible at the book store. Except for that hat at the Nerlens Noel decisions: I think we can all agree that hat must be flatly rejected by both style camps.

I just bought a great looking retro georgetown hat (similar to the one I wore in high school many years ago), but I doubt I'll ever get to wear it. I know the fashion (which has been going on seemingly forever) is to rock the flat brim with the top uncrushed, but I figured I could beat down the structure. (I would look ridiculous in a flat brimmed snapback). Unfortunately, the structure can't be cut out and is seemingly made of titanium. I already peeled off the stupid stickers, so I probably killed the hat's street cred value. Anyway, I do like this company's gear: shop.originalretrobrand.com/georgetown-hoyas.htmlThe shirt I bought from there a year ago is my weekend go-to... hm

Oh, I'm definitely not defending it. But then agian, the style of the 90's wasn't that great either. Although, I do enjoy the snapbacks with the giant G on the front/side. (Kind of like Ricky Fowler's puma hat...on that note, I was surprised that this weekend was his first win)
