Or, "he earned a reputation to recruit academically eligible players who transferred in good standing to fulfill parental obligations and earned college degrees."

"A Georgetown spokesman declined to confirm or deny the report."
Really? Really? Really? Sports Information can't write two sentences to confirm Broadus' hire but push back on whatever Thamel is going to say?
The message that sends is that Broadus is slimy and a hire we're not proud of, which of course we know is true, but Sports Information could at least try to defend it given the Athletic Department is the department that hired this guy.
We all know that Thamel wouldn't have given a rats ass about Macon's departure if it weren't for his ability to put that paragraph at the bottom in. He makes it look like the addendum, but we all know that's the reason for the article.

"Declined to confirm or deny" is fairly standard PR-speak for acknowledgement of a situation before it is formally announced. Nothing untoward there.

I agree. The "no comment" plays right into the angle Thamel was going to push.

Oh, I'm not saying it's untoward, I'm saying it's basic incompetence that they can't get out in front of this. Isn't that one of the basic rules of PR?

Did you actually expect competence out of the GU Athletic department?

I am still waiting for Thamel to respond to the email I sent regarding his article on Nerlens Noel and the lack of information he chose to not share regarding Syracuse booster/Andy Miller Agency runner Errol Randolph. I even linked Thamel his own article denouncing the tactics of ASM as being corrupt in recruiting as he profiled in an article about Kevin Ware's recruitment in April of '11.
Guess Pete only finds certain instances worthy of his investigative reporting--but not mentioning the background of a man he quotes in article accusing others of cheating/corrupt tactics in recruitment of an elite player is beneath him.

I simply can't get worked up about Pete Thamel. He writes for thr New York Times which has zero relevance in the real world of sports.

I have a lot of trouble giving Thamel the benefit of the doubt on this. He may not wear his biased agenda on his sleeve, but all his pockets are filled with it. As Elvado said, it's difficult to find a rationale to give him the time of day.
