Did only season ticketholders receive this e-mail? I'm a Hoop Club donor, but I didn't receive it.
I want to be asked for money too!

Hoya Hoop Club Donor here too. $100+/year. Also have donated to other sports (softball, football, women's basketball, general athletic excellence fund). Have not received an e-mail. Anybody else not receive this e-mail that feels like they should've? I hate feeling out of the loop on University matters like this. There have been a few times where I would hear from friends about some University e-mail that was sent out, only to realize that that I wasn't on a list. And I hate to play this card, but I was flag man for a season, dammit.

I received the Email, but have never given money (would if I had any) or bought tickets in my name through the HHC, so I dont think it was based on that. Think their email list is just incomplete.

Shouldn't they be focusing on all donors? Whether or not you agree with the "complaints," it seems like there are missed opportunities to get more donations.

Again, why do you need to be outright asked to give? If you read this board, you know about the IAC. Just go donate. They'll get to everyone in time. $50 right now isn't going to get a shovel in the ground. $500,000 will. If you want to complain, this is not the place to do it. Call Hoyas Unlimited - 202-784-6223.

Then why should Athletics send a email or mailing to anyone that's a member on this board?

Again, why do you need to be outright asked to give? If you read this board, you know about the IAC. Just go donate. I think potential donors on this board want to get invited to make a donation because it makes the IAC sound real and it makes the fundraising initiative a concrete, tangible thing for them. After years and years of hearing about potential Georgetown building projects, you cannot blame people for being a little skeptical. People want to make donations to something that is actually going to happen, not something that could potentially happen. Getting emails from the university soliciting money helps to show that the university is serious about the IAC and that it is a high priority, which, in turn, makes people more likely to donate.

I completely understand your reasoning. I know people want proof that this is going to happen but like I said, if the big gifts aren't secured, small gifts aren't going to get the IAC built. Big gifts get shovels in the ground. Believe me, The IAC is a MAJOR focus of the current campaign: campaign.georgetown.edu/iac.html And athletics fundraisers are working overtime to secure the gifts that will get construction started. Everyone just needs to be patient. You will be solicited in due time.

Everyone just needs to be patient. You will be solicited in due time. ...and then, the complaints will shift to "I can't believe they are asking me to give money again!"

I think some of the "complaints about not being solicited" are probably just expressions of disappointment that the University is not pushing this harder. Everybody who reads this board knows about the IAC. But there are plenty of people who would be willing to donate who do not read HoyaTalk, or CasualHoya, or any other Hoya-centric website. The administration is likely missing a good chunk of those people, too, which is a bigger problem.

Oh don't you worry, I will donate - I usually make my donations to Georgetown in November/December every year. But sometimes I wonder if others will. I just get concerned about the big picture when I feel like certain members of the Georgetown community get more "attention," while others get left out of the loop. If there were a reason for this (like targeting big donors first), that would make sense and I would be perfectly fine with it. But based on the responses on this board, that doesn't seem to be the case here. Again, this is probably a minor thing, and I'm probably making too big a deal out of this. I guess overall I would just like to feel involved, because I think this is extremely important for the future of the basketball program, Georgetown athletics, and the University as a whole.

But based on the responses on this board, that doesn't seem to be the case here. It's both of these things, really. Georgetown is absolutely targeting big donors first for donations, and that's what they're working on right now. They've also been a little inconsistent, it seems, on who gets the public email blasts. But hey--it's McDonough for cryin' out loud! Of course there's some of this in most communication efforts. I wouldn't chalk it up to "I'm out of the loop"--it's more "The loop has some gaps". Besides, if you read this board, you're in the loop enough. It's kind of like my point in the thread about the home non-conference schedule: it doesn't matter if a game is scheduled by JTIII or the Big East's Commodore 64 Schedule-o-Matic...I still have the ticket, so the game counts in how interesting the home schedule is. Same deal for the IAC--doesn't matter if you get a blast email or find out here from someone who did...you've got all the information you need. Plus side--the University IS doing a much better job communicating via updates to that IAC website...the link to it a few posts above, btw, contains a huge button/link to make a gift.
