Good stuff, thanks. At some point, I remember there was talk of creating a "Hoya Courtyard" that would serve as a place for pep rallies and other outdoor gatherings and would also provide a more distinguished path and entrance from the locker rooms to the MSF than the current Walk of Shame from McShain that the football team does. Is that what the green space in front of McDonough is supposed to be? I feel like at some point it was planned to be in between the IAC and the Heating Plant, but I might be remembering that wrong.

Didn't one of the approval commissions call for it to be pulled back against the Heating and Cooling plant/McD? I believe they did move the "Hoya Courtyard" out into the front area.

Dear Hoyas Fan, It has been a remarkable year for Georgetown Athletics and we are proud of the successes of every one of our varsity athletic programs. We in Georgetown Athletics are committed to recruiting the best and brightest and providing for them the best academic experience possible, while supporting our student-athletes’ efforts to achieve their fullest potential in their athletic pursuits. In order for them to succeed, we must provide them with the facilities to do so. And we will. I am pleased to share with you the significant progress the University has made toward providing important infrastructure for Georgetown’s 750 student-athletes and 29 Division I varsity athletic programs. On April 26, the D.C. Zoning Commission unanimously approved our zoning modification submission to build a new athletic training facility – the Intercollegiate Athletics Center (IAC). The construction of the IAC will transform the athletics experience at Georgetown, supporting the demands our student-athletes face on a daily basis. It will provide 130,000 square feet of necessary practice and programming space for every one of our student-athletes and varsity programs. It will be built adjacent to McDonough Gymnasium and will house: * New practice courts, locker rooms, team meeting rooms, lounge areas and coaches’ offices for men’s and women’s basketball. * Weight training facility and sports medicine/training room areas for all varsity student-athletes. * Student-athlete academic center, auditorium and team meeting facilities for all varsitysports programs. * New home for the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame and additional reception space to honor the University’s rich athletic tradition and history. * Additional locker room areas for the men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse programs. This important facility is the number one capital priority in the University’s ambitious campaign, For Generations to Come and represents nearly one half of the Department of Athletics’ $125M goal within the campaign. The total cost to construct the IAC is $60M and the timeline for completion is directly correlated to our ability, as a community, to raise the necessary funds. Georgetown has not completed an athletic facility since 1951. We need your help to make this facility campaign a success. Every day we delay, we fail in our commitment to support our 750 dedicated and talented student-athletes. To learn more about supporting this important project and to review the most recent designs, please visit www.guhoyas.com/IAC. Thank you for supporting our student-athletes. I look forward to seeing you on the Hilltop in the coming year. Hoya Saxa! Lee E. Reed Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Georgetown University

The title of the e-mail was "Important Development" , but I can' t seem to figure out what that is. The zoning committee decision was three months ago.

Hmm. Well, the Old Georgetown Board approved the design at the beginning of July (they had previously approved just the height and massing). And the plans linked at the bottom of the email are those July 2012 Plans. My guess is that the Athletic Department meant to reference the more recent OGB approval as well.
Bottom line is that the project has all of the concept approvals that it needs in place. Now it needs our financial support.

RusskyHoya = Lee Reed. Who knew? It's a well-known fact that 75% of the posters on this board are actually a handful of McDonough employees killing time. RDF is Kevin Broadus. Problem of Dog is Kevin Kelly trolling to gin up bulletin board material. hifigator is actually Jack the Bulldog.

If I were actually Kevin Kelly, I'd take a long walk off a short, metaphorical coaching plank. I, too, liked the original location of the courtyard between the IAC and the big ugly building that rains whatever sort of toxic chemical that is on everyone walking to Yates.

My understanding was that the U.S. Fine Arts Commission had held things up relating to the design. What's the status of that hold up?

Any idea when it'll go into the OGB appendix to be approved by CFA?
