SI's stats-savvy writer Luke Winn has been handing out coaching awards based on various numbers. In today's column, he writes about team's NCAA tournament performance, and, well... Tournament After-Timeout King: [snip] (If all game minimums were lifted, then Georgetown's John Thompson III would take this prize. His Hoyas scored 34 points on 26 ATO possessions in two tourney games ... but one of those was a very disappointing loss to 11th-seeded N.C. State in the third round.) sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/luke_winn/04/26/coaching.awards/index.html#ixzz1tAXxe6HH

Wait, I thought we sucked at running plays after timeouts?

Only the Princeton system sucks at running plays after timeouts.

Wait, I thought we sucked at running plays after timeouts? That surely is the conventional wisdom. People see what they want to see, whether it's true or not.

Sample size on this is too small to draw meaningful conclusions. It certainly seemed like ATO efficiency was improved this season, though.

The stats include possessions after opponent possessions after a timeout as well. Just searching the GU Hoyas game log there were 14 media/team timeouts against Belmont and 16 against NC State.
