Unknown to who? You maybe. But ive seen Moses play a fair amount and I'd like to think that I know what his talent level is. I'm counting on him because, honestly, I thought he might be further along than Henry last summer. Tyler Adams was a stud in HS and i watched him battle it out with Greg Monroe among others over the summer, and what I took away from that was a mental note of his talent level. Of course Kenner is not the best indicator of actual collegiate success, but for those who know anything about basketball it is a place where you go to evaluate talent. From that point, it becomes easier to project future roles. What I saw in Kenner last summer was consistent with what I saw during the season, and that is why I saw us as a top 20-15 team at least all the way back in July (believe it or not). My point is the OP was right, people are sleeping on our stable of bigs. We have a lot of somewhat unheralded talent in our frontcourt, and I would probably have each and every one of them over Hayes. Period. We're good to go as far as im concerned, time to reload. And where have you seen Moses play? i certainly havent seen him play in games that matter. Or are you extrapolating from Kenner, which is pickup basketball that resembles nothing like the way the Hoyas play or the competition Hoyas play against? High school? On campus? its not like it takes the 35th time seeing a dude play to know what he's capable of.

Tyler and Moses do seem injury prone though, and in that sense, it may be worth having extra bigs to work with.

While Kenner is entertaining, I'd be careful about drawing too many conclusions about how well kids will play in games based on play in Kenner. You either know how to watch and evaluate talent, or you dont. This is certainly true - and we tend to forget that you are, after all, tgod!

the kid says he can hit a 15-footer. Have you watched the videos? If he can hit a 15 footer, he's keeping it a secret. Maybe he means that he can dunk from 15 feet out.

You either know how to watch and evaluate talent, or you dont. Um, OK. If you say so. And, for the record, while I do not dismiss KL performances, I have seen enough KL games, where teams have few to no full practices and have fluid rosters, and I have attended enough in season practices and real games of actual teams to realize that drawing too many conclusions based on anything Kenner is dicey, at best. It's somewhat like believing one can actually evaluate a player from YouTube highlights. At least at Kenner, one can see an entire game.

Yes, you can't draw too many conclusions, but how much different is Kenner than AAU other than level of talent maybe? There are certainly things to watch for and things to disregard. Stats are almost useless in Kenner. For example, people looking at Chris Wright's Kenner stats would have thought he was an unstoppable scorer. If you watched him actually play though, you could see that he had some serious speed with the ball, confidence and agressiveness but also took advantage of Kenner "defense", got calls he wouldn't get in real play and struggled to see the floor. With Henry, some of his better stats games early on told us nothing other than, if he took a lot of shots and/or faced a midget squad, he could score and rebound. But watching him this past summer led some (including me) to believe he had an entirely different approach to the game than years past and could be serviceable.

^^^^ With this I agree. KL is far from worthless. I just urge caution in drawing too many conclusions.

How about Julian Vaughn killing it in Kenner just before his senior year...and scoring a combined 1 fg in the last 5 games of the season. It's an indicator like anything else, but not always a reliable one.

That has nothing to do with Kenner League, that's just you cherry picking stats. Vaughn was having a great senior year until the Cincinnati game, when Wright got hurt and the whole team went in the tank. Kenner League is a decent opportunity to see players get minutes they might not ordinarily - it's not a ouija board or mystical seer that tells you what happens to frontcourt players when Chris Wright gets hurt.

Good players will always look good. Thats not anything crazy. Thats why the good players will look good in Kenner and the bad ones wont. You can look better in Kenner than you actually are because of the competition, but you arent going to suck in Kenner and then be All Big East that season.

otto-
Glad to see someone as in love with DSR's game as I am. He can get buckets in so many different ways. Reminds me a lot of Randy Foye type game and physique. I think he is going to surprise a lot of people. As for Hayes, know nothing about him. But 6'11 is 6'11, and we could use some height (projects) on our bench for Othella to groom.

Othella sees "project" but he reads "star." So does Kirby

You can go back and still read those wtiteups on this site and Casual Hoya.

On UConn from that article:
"UConn: "They can develop me and prepare me for the league like they did with Hasheem Thabeet . . . ."
He must be talking about the NBDL.
