Elephant in the room...will he qualify? Is that something that's in doubt? Hadn't read that.

It's been said he had past academic issues; I think it's why he didn't play two years ago or last year. Anyway, he and coach say he's been on track all year. I could misremember though.

Awesome - let's hope he's next in the line of great big men. This should probably get up on the main board for the attention it deserves.

"“I plan on bringing a great work ethic and I plan on being one of the hardest workers there,” Hayes said. “I’m not just making myself better but my teammates as well and doing whatever it takes to make them successful.”"
Please do this.
WELCOME BRADLEY!

Good pickup. Length and athleticism are a great place to start. Clearly his skills will need to improve, but supposedly that is the value add that our staff provides--"We make our big men into millionaires." Right?
I look at our future frontcourt as a big mound of clay, just waiting to be molded into ballplayers. Between Hayes, Ayegba, Bolden, Hopkins and Adams there is a LOT of potential. Now it's up to our staff to shape these guys, teach them to play the post, teach them to face the basket, teach them to use their natural advantages. If we're truly Big Man U, that shouldn't be a problem, and if it works we should have success on the court and success continuing to recruit big guys. If we fail, not only will we struggle on the court but we'll struggle to keep pulling big guys on the trail--and since we know we struggle to pull guards, it could get ugly. A lot riding on this crop of young bigs.
Hopefully Roy, Greg and others can provide some additional guidance in the offseason in addition to that III, Othella, Pops, Broadus and others will provide during the season.

We now have players 6 who can only play 4/5 Fr. Hayes, Jr. Lubick, Fr. Bolden, Fr. Adams, So. Ayegba, so Hopkins. Obviously not all of these guys will be able to get on the court. Bolden especially seems like a project and a good candidate for a red shirt.
I think Hopkins and Lubick are the only ones guaranteed to get playing time. Obviously we have no real clue who will earn the spots at these positions at this point. I am not ready to write off Adams and Ayegba as some have. It's certainly going to be lots of competition at the 4 and 5.
This also means that we should see Otto Exclusively at the 3.

he's definitely saying all the right things. and judging by the way he hustles looks like he will back it up. really like this pickup ill say it again.
And not to place expectations, but I don't think any of us expected greg to contribute in the way he did this past year when he signed. Not saying he will do the same, but I wouldn't count out some meaningful minutes from him next year

When I think of the perfect roster assortment, the number of bigs I'd carry is five to six, distributed well between classes. We have 12 scholarships now, so with one spot open, this is what we have:
Junior Bigs: Lubick, Moses (academically) Soph Bigs: Adams (academically), Hopkins, Otto (can swing to 3) Freshman Bigs: Hayes, Bolden
It's a little off because of the redshirting, but if you play Otto away from PF (and realize the chances of him jumping early), we are well situated with bigs to withstand injuries, transfers, early entry, and still have a rotation of players you don't mind on the court.
In our three years post-Hibbert with Chris and Austin, we probably got a total of three "big man" seasons of quality out of our frontcourt (and that's giving DaJuan his junior year), when you should really have 6 starter level years (2x3) and at least one backup every year. We never really had an effective third guy, and rarely had a good second starter. Heck, one year we really didn't have even a starter level (at least on par with what we want).
So I have no problem with this many bigs.
And Hayes has NBA potential. He's going to be very good.

Who comes off the bench for them then? Trawick? Bowen? We haven't signed another wing player (yet??) so we're really thin there. I expect Markel and DSR to split time at the point. Hayes is a great pick up. I'm just curious to see how JTIII makes use of all the parts he has. There is a lot of depth in the front court but little experience.

I still think it's going to be harder to replace Clark's minutes than Henry's time on the court. Even before this signing.
I'd feel better with an actual PG on the roster.

Doesn't sound right since Markel and DSR aren't that tall and we still have a free scholarship. 10 maybe. And that's probably a bit generous to Trawick who I'd put at 6'4. Still good to be tall though.
