Not to burst everyone's bubble but Scout has him ranked as a 3 star prospect - the #33 PG (one of his areas for improvement is that he isn't a true PG - more of a combo). ESPN has him ranked as a 3 star SF. I know rankings aren't always right but he seems like less of a prospect that Tyler Ennis or Rysheed Jordan. Not saying the Hoyas shouldn't recruit him but just wanted to put some perspective around Hopkins. Go back and look at what Jabril Trawick, Otto Porter and Greg Whittington were ranked prior to their junior seasons. For a kid like this, what Scout/ESPN ranks him as means absolutely nothing in regards to the kind of player he could be by the time he signs his LOI. No disagreement from me. Although Otto ended up being a 4 star, almost 5 star prospect. I didn't mean to imply JTIII and company shouldn't recruit him, only that I've seen 4 minutes of highlights and most of the other board members have also seen that much. So I was just sharing thoughts from guys who do this for a living. Are they 100% right, no, but highlight videos don't always tell the whole story. Hopkins certainly looks like a stud in those videos but I just wanted to compare him to Ennis and Jordan.

I am sold. The kids handle in traffic sold me. That alone with his height would have been enough but he is athletic to boot. If he is ranked #33 then great the Hoyas may be able to steal him from Arizona and Miller.

Who cares what scout ranks him. I see with eyes a guy with great form on his jumper, hops, great ballhandling......unless he is a knucklehead...I like him enough to turn the heat on to get a visit....I was more impressed by how disruptive in those films he is in the passing lane. He looks to have a huge wingspan.

"HE’S AN AVERAGE GUARD, HE’S PIGGY BACKING OFF OF HIS COUSIN TORREN JONES, AND HE WILL ONLY BE A MARGINAL GUARD AT BEST. Those are some of things that the LOCAL HATERS , NAY SAYERS, SELF PROCLAIMED LOCAL SCOUTS & some LOCAL AAU COACHES have said for the past 2 & a half years but after hitting a 4inch growth spurt over an 8 month span, newfound exceptional athleticism and an immeasurable amount of confidence & swag, Jaron Hopkins has finally not only stepped out of the shadows of his top prospect cousin and HS teammate (Torren Jones) Hopkins has separated himself from the vast majority of his pears as the #1 (PG) in the class of 2013 in the state of Arizona and now among the top 2 or 3 (PG’s) on the entire West Coast in his class. " Folks are going to go bananas over this kid. He is a real plum. DareIsay, a peach? Would hate to see him in Orange or heading to the Big Apple to play for SJU. Yeah, okay, it's Friday. Cut me some slack.

Is that what you're feeling ID, or did a little bird tell you?

Sounds like a Hoya-type player to me.....long, athletic and maybe a little under the radar. Gotta hand it to the staff for being in it with so many of these kids from all parts of the country.

He did mention G'town at the very end as a school he'd like to hear from along with Butler, UCLA and Kentucky.. What stood out most to me during the interview was that both of his parents prefer that he stays out west, seems unlikely G'town would get him.
