story on rivals says GU has increased interest. 2012 PG from AZ. 6'4, 185. from the videos on you tube he seems to have good athleticism, handle and size. Also a 3.6 gpa. Pac-12 and Ivy's on him. Reminds me a little of Jason Terry, albeit highlight videos. Does he translate to the Big East though? III loves big guards. Could this kid be a sleeper? Anyone seen him play?

yeah, re-read and caught it. mods change to '13. ID, FYI -- you can go back and edit your own post - including the thread title -- to make it '13. You don't need to wait for the mods to fix it. Meanwhile, thans for the heads up on our next Hopkins!

Seems like the kind of player we could use for sure. Totally supportive of this one.

Sounds good to me. What are the odds we can get the top PG in Arizona though? Not exactly the easiest position for us to recruit, and then throw in that he lives in the same state as PG U.

Not to burst everyone's bubble but Scout has him ranked as a 3 star prospect - the #33 PG (one of his areas for improvement is that he isn't a true PG - more of a combo). ESPN has him ranked as a 3 star SF. I know rankings aren't always right but he seems like less of a prospect that Tyler Ennis or Rysheed Jordan. Not saying the Hoyas shouldn't recruit him but just wanted to put some perspective around Hopkins.

I trust my eyes on this one, and this kid looks like Russell Westbrook....He handles the ball well, but he's an unreal athlete playing point guard...Put him with some of our wings and this kid is dangerous. His ranking means zero to me

His ranking means zero to me Applauding icon, please. Russell Westbrook was a two star coming out of high school - a sleeper who exploded. Now Russell Westbrooks don't grow on trees, but I've learned enough on this board to respect daytona's opinion. I'd also rather have Rysheed Jordan, but for some reason that seems like a no go, so I would certainly support our interest in this kid.

Length and vision, with a healthy helping of athleticism? Yes please.

If they value education, as his dad says in the interview, then GU should be high on the list.

"HE’S AN AVERAGE GUARD, HE’S PIGGY BACKING OFF OF HIS COUSIN TORREN JONES, AND HE WILL ONLY BE A MARGINAL GUARD AT BEST. Those are some of things that the LOCAL HATERS , NAY SAYERS, SELF PROCLAIMED LOCAL SCOUTS & some LOCAL AAU COACHES have said for the past 2 & a half years but after hitting a 4inch growth spurt over an 8 month span, newfound exceptional athleticism and an immeasurable amount of confidence & swag, Jaron Hopkins has finally not only stepped out of the shadows of his top prospect cousin and HS teammate (Torren Jones) Hopkins has separated himself from the vast majority of his pears as the #1 (PG) in the class of 2013 in the state of Arizona and now among the top 2 or 3 (PG’s) on the entire West Coast in his class. "

He has the size and athleticism - does he have good handle and the bball IQ to understand our system?

Not saying the Hoyas shouldn't recruit him but just wanted to put some perspective around Hopkins. Go back and look at what Jabril Trawick, Otto Porter and Greg Whittington were ranked prior to their junior seasons. For a kid like this, what Scout/ESPN ranks him as means absolutely nothing in regards to the kind of player he could be by the time he signs his LOI.
