OGB approved the concept siting and massing of the building today. Great first step. On to zoning.
On edit: OGB was effusive in its praise of the current design.

If it gets approved (is the 26th "Final" approval), do people expect a fundraising announcement?
I was told a major donor would be announced a year ago -- and I've sort of taken it on faith they have people in reserve until it's approved (so as to not Edited off neighbors with presumption).
It's GU, so who knows, but I'd love to see immediately after approval, a significant amount of money announced with people along with a timeline.

Over on the USS midway thread there was a proposal that could make all this moot. Why don't we just get the navy to decommission an aircraft carrier and park it on the potomac attached to the boat house. Then we can play all our games on an aircraft carrier! Plus getting the navy to decommission a battle ship and park it on the Potamac should be a lot less federal red tape than the local red tape to get the ATF built. Plus if we give the right honorary degrees maybe we can get the battleship paid for by the federal government. Then again Rostenkowski was indicted!

To those with better understanding of the ATF and facilities at other schools, will the ATF be adequate in terms of basketball facilities or is this just a first step? I know we won't have elite facilities but would this put us on par with at least 2nd tier facilities (not the UKs or Kansases of the world but at least mid-level major conference teams)?

I can't speak to the details, but I believe the hope is to put us up there with the schools we regularly compete with. In other words, the ATF will make us competitive with our peers -- Big East, etc. And it will really benefit all athletes -- in addition to the practice courts, locker rooms, and admin offices for M+W bball, there are also sorely-needed facilities for other athletes -- a new weight room, a large sports medicine area, meeting rooms and lounge/study spaces, and locker rooms for other sports as well.

Having this will also allow for the massive overhaul that McD sorely needs

I know this isnt the main topic of the thread, but a further complication of the "students living on campus" issue is that the University defines campus as the property it owns, while the ANC views it as inside the gates (meaning they dont include any of the row houses outside the gate, for example).
If anyone wants to engage in more ANC bashing/head scratching there is a nice little thread on the 37 and O board.

The "Main Campus boundaries" are historically defined as a matter of city law and zoning regulations. Georgetown owns and rents property outside of those boundaries, like the GU Press facilities down Prospect or the office space on M Street. These are not part of campus. The townhouses within the established borders of campus are, no matter how much certain neighbors would like to dispute this in order to disqualify the students living in them as being in "on-campus housing."

Not quite. The townhouses on the 1400 block of 36th and the 3600 block of Prospect are just outside the boundary. Everything else in the three blocks immediate east of 37th street and in the LXR block is on campus.

Just proudly mailed by contribution to the Georgetown Athletic Department. I was informed that the university has a goal of raising $125 mil for the athletic program. It would be great for the program to re-establish their nationwide fan base ($25 - $100) donations. If the university would set a goal of 2000 new and old fans and supporters to contribute every year it would have a great impact financially and enthusiasm for the program.

Does the contribution simply go to the Athletic Department or do you have to earmark it for the particular use for the new facility?

It should be earmarked if you want it to go to the IAC. Otherwise, it will go into current use athletics funds.
