Chris Wright was a ridiculous dribble drive player. Stop. That's just ridiculous. Guy was a very good player but he wasn't anything special off the dribble drive, did not penetrate into the defense nearly enough to feed teammates and was inconsistent at best finishing around the hoop. The offense got worse without a doubt, but it wasn't that great to begin with. After a disastrous start to the BE season in which the wheels of the Gtown offense fell off, III adapted by making the team a more grind-it-out squad who won relatively low scoring contests. Hoyas won 8 games in a row but the O was average at best before Chris went down.

After days of depression I am finally been able to start watch NCAA Basketball again. I been trying to figure why are some of these teams still playing. It finally hit me what we are missing. A finisher at the basket. Someone who can take the ball off the dribble and finish at the basket or draw files. We really haven't had a player like during JTIII tenure. Kidd-Gilchrist is a beast on the boards. Sorry watching the game. Back to my point. It seems penetrations come from off ball movement instead of dribble drive. I think that's why we start settling for 3s. We need someone who can get to the basket. I think that would open up the offence even more. JTIII say its part of the offence but I haven't see player really do it effectively or make a real attempt to do so. Got 3 question 1) Who was our best driver to the basket during JTII? (I say Jason Clark) 2) Do we need one to get the the final 4? (Yes) 3) Is part of the offence? (Don't think is something that JTIII has recruited well. Not really part of our offence.) Chris Wright was our best dribble penetration guy for 4 years during the JTII era. Although alot of you bagged on him so it's ironic now that you want a player like him. The problem with Jason Clark is he is a good slasher and great finisher but he's a black hole. He can't pass or kick it out out of dribble penetration. If you have the ability to either finish or kick it out that will suck in the defense leading to wide open 3s or slam dunks. This is what Peyton Siva is good at and what Joey Rodriquez was good at last year during VCU's Final Four run.

You can't drive without dribbling. Has that already been said on this thread?

You can't drive without dribbling. Has that already been said on this thread? You can if you're Kemba Walker. Or Scottie Reynolds.

Yes, we need dribble drive players. It will open up the offense and put pressure on the opposing defense. You can score or drive and kick. Simple! I know most of this board loves are offensive style, but the teams that win in march madness don't play that way. Its harder to stop a player driving to the hoop, than a player taking a jump shot.

In general, we cut and pass to the hoop. Jason and Jabril drove. Chris and Austin drove. We get a lot of layup attempts. All teams can use an offensive stud who can just take his - just make a play - when things break down or get slow.

What we need is someone who can facilitate off the dribble in addition to getting their own offense.

A player like Collins at South Florida would be great for this team. The kid can make an occasional 3pt shot if its a set shot but he can penetrate on any defense and distribute to big men cutiing to basket or wings setting up behind 3pt line. That would give JT3 the extra dimention for his offense when the opposing teams just run with the cutters and ignore the player with the basketball. It would force the defenders to go back to having to play help defense in order to keep him out of the lane.

The main reason Georgetown does not appear to drive a lot is because most opponents play zone to take away the back door cuts and mismatches that the offense creates.
But whenever isolated on one defender, almost every player on the team drove to the basket.
Jason drove. Markel drove. Hollis drove. Henry drove. Otto drove. Greg drove. Jabril drove. Mikael drove. Only Nate did not drive. They just don't drive into a zone with defenders clogging the paint.

Only Nate did not drive. They just don't drive into a zone with defenders clogging the paint. All the aforementioned players who drove the ball into the lane were one dimensional when they drove. They drove with the intention of shooting the ball and the defense knew this. Rarely if ever did you see a dish off to open big man cutting to the basket or to wing behind 3pt line. The Hoya zone offense was pretty good this year, example the Cuse game. Its the Pitt's, Cincy's and WV of the world who play rugged man-to-man and stick with the cutter and ignore the guy with the basketball that a guy who can both drive and score and drive and dish would be useful. The two dimensional player makes makes at least two maybe three players move to respect his ability to score. If he has the PG instincts of who to dish to and how to get it to them, then he makes the team much more dangerous. The Princeton system was designed to get guys who did not have the athleticism and handle to get to the basket and score to the basket by way of the back door or to the basket by way of an open lane(defense following cutter instead of helping). Teams have adjusted to challenged the Hoya driving to beat their defensive guy off the dribble to score the basket rather than letting back cut layup happen. Next year when they do that it would be nice to have a guy who can dribble drive and dish.

At least they didn't drive into a lane full of people and jump up with no idea with what to do with the ball.
