I'm too lazy to scroll through the pages to find his individual thread, so I will start this one. Not a perfect game, but a very big contribution from Nate on defense and on the boards. Hope he works hard in the off-season(especially on that free throw form! ;D), he can be an important part of next year's squad, the best battler we have.

Then we must have been watching a different game. Nate gave us nothing thet would contributed to us winning. Nate played to many minutes this game. I was so excited about about Nate from last year. Me made to step backs this year. If it wasn't for Greg overachieving expectation our season would have stunk. Nate plays like a bull in a China shop. All year he has been a liability. On offence as well as defence. Event his FT % went down.

Nate is an important player for us now. He is the only physical presence we have. This team could use a lot more of it.
Nate is pretty much a role player. Some folks just have to accept this. He is doing the best he can. With we what he gives us, it helps.

I like Nate and he's had an up and down season (not near as much down as some on this board would suggest). The two tourney games were good. Nice passing and defense. More importantly, he was the main person out there in the first half that was rebounding for us. We'll need his defense, passing, and rebounding next seasson. We all should be happy he's here when you look at the "proven" size coming back next season.

My prediction: We see a SIGNIFICANTLY improved Nate by November 2012.

So what role does he play if he is a role player. What we saw of Nate last year is a big drop off from last year. Nate has been a liability on both end of the court this year. We need double digit rebound from Nate each night. He is no threat to score which cause his defender to play way off and clog the up the defense. This is what happen to us last year with Vaughn. In order for I cut to work you have to clear the paint.

Nate played very well today and gave us great effort. He was not the problem.

But please, he needs to change his free throw stroke. MY elbow hurts after every one of those shots.

When we had both him and Hank in foul trouble and brought Hopkins into the game, NC State went on a huge run. Nate has been serviceable facilitating the offense in Henry's absence but with both guys on the bench, we couldn't get really maintain any flow to the offense. He was also probably the best rebounder we had out there, because fundamentally at least on the defensive end, he always boxes out and puts a body on the offensive player. He needs to be shooting jumpshots everyday from now until October and just needs one go to post move and a counter move which I think he probably has more than we realize but lacks confidence to use it.

As with many things, I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Based on his play from earlier this season, I thought Nate was good defensively and serviceable offensively. On defense, he couldn't compete in a quickness race but there aren't many who can against Leslie. Still, he generally kept excellent defensive position and affected a lot of shots by standing his ground and sticking his hands up. Offensively, he didn't do anything special, but didn't hurt us either. He was the lead big guy in there for long periods of time without anything negative happening. Don't get me wrong, the offense didn't hum along, but he wasn't turning it over or making the wrong play. Things didn't get out of hand until he also got his second foul.
So, I'd say overall it was an above average performance based on what we've seen overall this year.
Frankly I expect big things from him next year. It seems to me that he has the skill set to be a guy who faciliates the offense from 18 feet out. He's better suited to that than playing with his back to the basket in the post. He has the ability to make that shot, and he has shown he can see the cutters. I don't see any reason he can't work on his game and be at least vaguely similar to what Henry gave us this year.

I thought Nate was definitely a bright spot today, in light of his performance this season. Tons of effort as always, but I felt like there was a bit more confidence present as well. Something just felt different, as I didn't feel uncomfortable when he got the ball. I thought he played within himself, and was deserving of the minutes he got.

He is an offensive liability. We play 4 on 5 when he is in the game. Nice kid, but if he is playing more than 5-10 minutes a game it's a bad sign. Also, his FT shooting is atrocious and creates even more of an issue with getting significant PT.

Good lord, I must have seen something else because I think with 3 more minutes of Nate in the first half, the Hoyas probably win this game.
I do hope he begins to make the leap next year. There's no reason he couldn't play the high post like Henry this year, there's no reason he couldn't make drives like Henry, and there's no reason he can't become an offensive rebound/putback force in the low blocks.

Can't forget his injury this Summer too--Hoyas injury bug bit the frontcourt-and how valuable would a year of Moses/Tyler backing up Henry/Nate helping out have been? Mikael did a nice job, but is more of a typical body in terms of young FR--where Tyler and obviously a Soph Moses bring size to help.
Nate needs to live in gym this offseason-be it home in Massachucetts or stay in DC and work. Has to be able to make shots from 15 Feet in to make his passing more of a weapon. He does that--he goes from nice role player to effective player. It's just hard in the offense to be productive when as the passer/facilitator nobody has to respect/defend a wide open player at FT area--and Nate gets it and doesn't even face up, he just goes into dribble hand off. If he works on his jumper--the FT stroke will come and 3pt stroke isn't needed but if you work on shot-amazing how you start getting better from any/every spot on court. He's got nice footwork/but zero confidence on block--due to not being very explosive unless he can run/step into his jump.
But think he and Markel were solid in their NCAA minutes and that was nice way for them to end--on high note. Starks played his best game today in a long time and Nate was tough/battled. Just take that positive ending and go into offseason and work hard.

Nate, Mikael, Moses and hopefully Nerlens have a HUGE opportunity open next year -- and for more than one or two of them.
The minutes at the post (offensive and defensive) are open for this group. Nate and Mikael have shown strength and weakness, potential and issues, and there's 40 minutes at the 5 plus whatever they can earn at the 4.
The offensive pivot for the Hoyas is one of the best big man positions in all of college basketball -- I honestly can't think of an offense that gives the pivot man as much to do.
Everyone should be working hard. For Nate, that shot NEEDS to develop.
