Dear fellow Hoyas: Welcome to Georgetown Day, 2012!
Georgetown Day is a day to celebrate the unique character of Georgetown University. Check out the great events that your Georgetown Day committee has been hard at work to set up for you. Please also note the policies and procedures listed so that Georgetown Day ’12 can be the best ever!
We, as your all-student planning committee feel that Georgetown Day is a staple of Georgetown tradition. Despite constraints and legitimate concerns that have been raised after issues with disruptive attendees the past few years, it’s happening and will be the best yet! We are proud to report that we have had an increase in support from student groups. We are glad that students are taking initiative to celebrate our entire campus community in a safe, inclusive and totally awesome way.
Georgetown Day 2012 will be about bringing people together with an emphasis on our tight knit community. Our ultimate aim is to celebrate Georgetown – its ideals, values, institutions, its teachers, staff and students.

Please enjoy the day respectfully. We operate as one student body. If you choose to engage in unsafe behavior, it endangers not only you but also those around you. We hope the Georgetown Day tradition continues for generations to come, but that means we cannot take advantage, or take for granted, this day your peers worked hard to organize and so many university departments and campus partners support. Please see below for more specific guidelines.
We cannot wait to see you on the lawn! Remember,
we will be selling t-shirts this week from 10AM till 3PM daily—stop by our table in Red Square to pick yours up! HOYA SAXA,

Georgetown Day 2012 Policies
Please remember that this is a day for ALL members of the Georgetown community. Georgetown Day is the time for us as a campus community to celebrate our accomplishments over the past year. We ask that you keep in mind that the following policies apply to all Georgetown Day events:
· Alcoholic beverages are not permitted at the event. In the District of Columbia, being in possession of an open container outdoors is illegal.
· Any alcoholic beverages and/or coolers found in the public event space may be confiscated.
· The majority of the day’s activities will take place on Copley lawn. This area will be separated by metal barricades with entrances at either end of the lawn. These entrances will be monitored by hired security guards, DPS officers, campus administrators, and student volunteers. Outside food (like our great hamburgers, pizza, etc.) is permitted; however, no outside liquid is. Don’t worry—we have plenty of water inside to keep you hydrated!
· Backpacks and bags are permitted for the purpose of going to class and conducting other university business. DPS officers and other security have the right to inspect personal belongings such as backpacks in the event areas and on the lawns.
· Students found bringing alcohol to Georgetown Day’s public event spaces will have their GO Card numbers recorded. Students will be asked to check in at the Volunteer Table at 5pm to help with Georgetown Day clean up for two hours, or will be assessed a $75 fine. Other conduct violations, including failure to comply with university officials, may result in more serious sanctions.
· Georgetown Day is a non-smoking event. No hookahs or smoking of any kind will be permitted on the lawns.
We know this is a lot of information—but just remember the Do’s and Don’ts of Georgetown Day!
Do:· Take advantage of all there is to offer on Georgetown Day - the Dorothy Brown Award, performances by Georgetown’s artistic talent, free food, drinks, and a celebration of all parts of the Georgetown community.
· Buy a Georgetown Day t-shirt! T-shirts and Tank Tops will be sold in Red Square (or in Leavey Center during inclement weather) for $10. We will accept GoCard.
· Attend the Dorothy Brown Award ceremony at 1:00 PM on White Gravenor Patio. Applaud your favorite professor as he or she is given this special honor!
· Recycle! Georgetown Day aims to be a sustainable event. Look for recycling bins across campus.
· Have your photo taken with Jack the Bulldog!
· Make sure to follow policies both outside and inside the residence halls.
· Look out for your fellow Hoyas and call GERMS if you see someone who needs help. Their phone number is
202-687-HELP (4357) or (202) 687-4343. Don’t:· Skip class! Georgetown Day will take place all day Friday, April 27th. Go to class - there is plenty to see and do afterwards.
· Bring alcoholic beverages to public spaces on campus. Alcohol is not permitted in public parts of campus. Violations of this rule will result in sanctions and fines.
· Bring prohibited items to Georgetown Day. Backpacks are subject to inspection. Hookahs and coolers are not permitted – they may be confiscated. Dogs or other pets should be left at home, too.
· Jump over the barricades, it will result in a citation!
