Congratulations Henry and Jason. Thanks for the great leadership for all of our young players this season. Question to all board members. Who had us 22-6 and 12-5 in the Big East with one game to go? Let's go Hoyas. Ruin senior day @ Marquette just like we did in March of 2008. Who had us at 15-1 at home, one of the best home records in Hoya history? Proud of this team

If you add Cooleys' rebounds, blocks ,and assists, and throw in field goals made, you get to the number 1. Thats good defense on a teams best player.

thought Markel acquitted himself very well tonight, esp on defensive end. fought over screens and really didn't get burnt too much. III wanted the length in second half, but that was more a matchup thing.

Yeah I think Otto used to provide a spark off the bench when Markel started. But now Whittington does that. And with the rest of everyone playing more cohesively after three months Clark doesn't have the same pressure and Markel can come in and spell him. Plus he always got quick fouls anyway the first five minutes of the game, so why not have him come the bench? Markel may not like it, but he has to realize that the team is now 2-0 with Otto starting with dominating victories. In addition, he should see that this year he should work on being JTIII's next option rather than Jabril as a goal, and not worry too much about starting Guard - whoever proves themeselves obviously will have an opportunity with Clark gone next year.

The announcing crew knew halfway through the second half that the game was over. Despite ongoing action on the floor, they kept talking about their picks for end of the year honors in the conference totally ignoring the game.
Given tonight's outcome, I have absolutely no complaints with how they called the game.
Love the interviews with JTIII, Henry, and Jason at the conclusion of the game. Very well-spoken, understated, and composed. Save the nastiness for game time.

Championship defense. Enough said If there was a consistent, reliable, credible offense to go with it the Hoyas would be #1 in the nation. Can't argue the point, but that being said, when we play defense like we did the last two games, we are still capable of beating anyone. We keep playing D like that, the current #1 is the only team that I would consistently fear. A team could always have a great night do blow in the locker room or we could go stone cold, but this D gives us a shot. Love it.

Other thing I loved about the last two games is that during the Nova game the announcers kept talking about how our style of play doesn't allow us to blow teams out (in all seriousness they must have said it 3 or 4 times, almost the exact same way every time). Um.....
Well, screw you announcers.

The team defense, especially guarding the perimeter, has been outstanding for much of the season and is the single biggest reason we we are over-achieving. Our offense is not great. But our defense is. If given the choice, I'd take awesome defense any day of the week.
We played most minutes the last three seasons with a 6'0" PG, 6'2" SG, and 6'3" SF. This year, for long stretches of games, we play a 6'2" PG, 6'7" SG, and 6'9" SF. Makes a big difference in defense and rebounding.
We will be able to build around Whitt and Otto. Big time.

Ranch, I just had crazy deja vu. Did you post something extremely similar to that earlier in the season? I hope the answer is yes, or else I may be losing it.

Wonderful way for the SR's to end their careers at home--2 dominant/blowout wins and playing some great/tough basketball. Jason Clark has been brilliant all year in leading the team--and doing what is needed to win games--sometimes scoring, sometimes handling the ball, but always providing a great example of effort/intensity and that is what he should be most proud about and what I thank him for. Henry was outstanding tonight--just all over the place and really that is fastest I've ever seen Jason move to the ball/with the ball-he was flying all over the court. These 2 need to make sure rest of team realizes-this is level of urgency/intensity that has to be taking place each game--not just tonight--the juice/tempo/urgency the SR's provided was outstanding and thank them for that. Still season left so saving the goodbyes/official thanks for then but for tonight--helluva way to go out guys! Whittingon--Bronxie---was that enough speed for you when he missed a driving layup and ended up chasing down the ND break and stopping it with Hollis coming over? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) For a guy that some questioned his athleticism/speed--think that was a pretty good display-but I'm biased in loving Whittington's skill set/game since minute I saw tape of him. He's elevated his play and been most consistently contributor lately and if he's playing confident/loose he can make this team tough out. To do that--Hollis Thompson has to up his game. He's stunk in some areas lately that team cannot afford--the passing/decision making has been atrocious. His defense/hustle is there, so that's good but he's got to be stronger/tougher with the ball and make quicker decisions with it. The good thing is he's got a history of playing well in March--but he's got to for the team to be peaking. Otto was great on glass/defense and love that he's taking that FT area jumper more and with confidence. Good shot even if it doesn't fall. Nate's been providing what is needed minus SH game where he got himself out of game with foul trouble-but banging/boarding and hustle plays. Starks had better tempo tonight and was more assertive--but his defense is still not to standard of teammates. Atkins immediately got off when Starks entered game--Starks lost him in zone for open 3 to tie game, and then abused him off the dribble for hoop. He also didn't block out Conoughton in 2nd Half which resulted in ND hoop, and Atkins and Grant took him a few times. Because team won-this will be overlooked-and on play he didn't block out-he looked at bench/raised his hand. That's not going to help from this point on--that type of crap can cost you a game. ND should've pressured him more--the one time they did with him in-he fired a horrible pass (inbounds passes are an adventure with this team, just hope they don't have to inbound the ball tied/down a point with 10 secs or left in BET or NCAA's or they are in trouble). Liked the aggressive drive/dish to Henry, and liked the tempo he brought ball up into frontcourt. Excellent improvement with that. Defense has to be better though. Might sound nitpicking on the kid-but he gave up 11 of their 41 pts. Pace/tempo was much better on offense--just far more urgency and getting ball up quickly allows the team to run some stuff--especially when seeing man to man (why any team does this is another question, but hope that becomes a trend). Just a more engaged team overall and type of play you expect this time of year--which has a much different feel to this team then in past 3 years. Love seeing Aaron Bowen getting into games--know its not for much time--but seeing him get him is good. Just hope he's patient and sticks it out-he'd get an opportunity and brings another athlete to team and has ability to make tough shots off drive/above rim. Polish the game up and it'll come. Loved the press to start the game--even though it didn't result in a big lead or any lead--it got team in good rhythm and flow and ND engaged them. Hoyas were able to get some easy hoops--transition hoop from Starks was huge--for entire team and just felt like Hoyas of old--every loose ball was theres, they looked so much more athletic/faster on court and played with relentless approach. Beautiful basketball to watch--at least in Big East sense. Some leagues don't like that--I love it! Defend and attack. Too many times lately facing ND or teams like them--Hoyas were on heels and felt like that last week at Seton Hall--which is why this past homestand was critical--to get focus back and take on demeanor that has defined this group. Defense/toughness. Loved it!

Given the outcome of the last two games, do we continue to play a big line up to start the game? Hollis and Otto have been able to keep up with smaller players on the perimeter. I am seeing less instances when either guy gets beat off the dribble by an opposing guard. I am very impressed with how both guys try to stay in front of opposing players to prevent penetration and still get into good rebounding position.
Though Hollis' offense has slumped a bit, he is finding new ways to score - posting up against smaller defenders and getting out in transition. Plus Otto's midrange game is getting more consistent. What a weapon against the zone. Just keep it 15 feet and under.
Loved the energy from Markel tonight. I think that coming off the bench may work out.

Competition to get back in the starting rotation is a good thing. Otto and Markel are going to have to bring it every game in order to take back their spot.

The team picked a great night to have their best game of the season. And, although it was another balanced effort with pretty much everyone contributing, I couldn't be happier for Jason and Henry. It's probably unlikely either will be an NBA player and I couldn't care less - that league is Boring 90% of the time with a capital B anyway - but Jason has been a great college player and Henry became a good one this year. Both were outstanding tonight in front of proud families and grateful fans.
Jason was in Chris's and Austin's shadows for so long that I had no idea he would be such a great leader and decision-maker, not to mention such a great all-around player. Scorer, ball handler, rebounder, distributor, very very good defender IMO - controlled intensity.
I haven't looked at the box yet but it sure seemed like we were having a big rebounding night, and forcing a lot steals.
Welcome to the big time, Greg Whittington.

Not if you had a crowbar, dynamite, or WMDs. Porter is here to stay -- in the starting line-up for as long as he stays at GU! That is not a commentary on Markel, but on the complete game, leadership and effort Otto brings.

Notre Dame's not a great rebounding team on either end. Hoyas in conference play have been best in the Big East at not letting an opponent get offensive rebounds. Overall OR% and DR% were fairly close to what you'd expect.
