I thought it was time for Jabril to get his own thread. If one already exists my bad.
I think jabril is one of our most underrated players. I think hes going to be a key player for us in the years to come.
1. I like his confidence, hes clearly more prepared to play than most Frosh Guards that arent over hyped H/S all americans.
2. I like his toughness.
3. I suspect that there is much more to his game that we dont see in the 8 minutes a night he gets this year. I think he has a nice jump shot, good court awareness and he well liked by his teamates.
I think come his jr and sr year hes going to be a major player for us. I hope JT3 continues to work him into this years lineup. He seems to always be a positive on the court...

Strong player, I love how he shakes off defenders. Thinking of comparisons in Hoya history. Dwayne Bryant?

Saw him boxing out one of the USF bigs today on a USF shot. The shot ended up going in, so there was no rebound to be had, but man was he fighting.

Great at getting to the basket, great defender, and one of the best players I have seen in awhile at rebounding their own misses--a lot there to like now and a lot to be excited about for the future!!! Hope he brings it at the Dome on Wednesday!!!

Dwayne was a better shooter and better ballhandler. Dwayne was a good defender, but maybe not as physical as a Brilly from Philly.

Love the kid, needs to tighten his handle a bit....not quite the playmaker Jessie was (yet). Thought he did a great job running the break that ended with the Lubick dunk...essentially screening off the defender once he dumped the ball.

random, but; I think he's going to attempt the most free throws of any guard in the III era, by far. Has real knack for drawing contact.

Looks like Chris Wright has the most of any guard in the III era now with 393 FT Attempts (23rd all time), which comes out to an average of 3.6 FT attempted per game. Roy has the most of any player in the III era with 481 FT attempts (11 all time)

Glad this kid got his own thread because I thought he was key to the Hoyas surviving their duldrums in the first half. He had to come in early again because Markel continues to reach instead of moving his feet and he picked up two early fouls. I had thought Markel could handle the PG position but I am not so sure now. He is becoming a liability on defense with his reaching to strip ball from defender as he goes past him. Jabril's handle is improving from game to game. He brought ball up against the press with no problems. He also pushed ball to basket once press was broken. I too think his playing time will increase as the year goe forward.

The player I think of when I see Jabril be aggressive is Dwyane Wade. Not comparable in quality, of course, since Wade is an NBA All-Pro and all that, but just in his style. As alleninxis points out, he has a knack for drawing contact without really changing his game. You can tell when, say, Jason Clark is trying to draw a foul -- it's a conscious/unconscious change to when he's trying to get a shot away. Jabril doesn't -- he just sort of bowls in there but rarely does it in a manner that would create offensive fouls. He gets knocked to the ground a lot but it doesn't affect his choices. He also a nice FT stroke that hasn't translated to the three point line yet. He doesn't have Wade's knack around the basket, otherwordly athleticism (though he's athletic) or his handle, but I can see Jabril really becoming a heckuva player.

Perhaps a bit like Fred Brown. Big strong guard who can handle the ball and play tough D.

random, but; I think he's going to attempt the most free throws of any guard in the III era, by far. Has real knack for drawing contact. If he's ever remotely close to the basket with the ball, drawing a foul is his go-to move and it's working for him. In his games where he scores a lot (I'd guess 6+ points for him) just about all of them come from the stripe. 10 today, 7-8 from ft.

Jabril is exactly what this team needed. A kid who enjoys roughing it up, getting physical and has a mean streak. I think he is great for that alone. He also seems to have some ability to go with the attitude and that just adds to his value. I expect him to be a leader as an upper-classman and the type of guy you need to be successful at the highest level.
For this year and next I would not mind if he is just the guy that brings the nasty demeanor to the court. I love that he does not allow layups and has no problem talking to guys about it. I hope he has a flare up with Cuse too, just to get our own guys riled up.
