My opinion was based on my observation from seeing the action in person. Nothing stupid about being safe.
Ever try dunking from five feet out going full speed? If you say yes, I would have to call that BS.
Sorry, I don't mean to get disagreeable. I just have to stand up for our players who are actually playing the game.

I'll also comment that his hanging on the rim technical was about as dumb as play as you get. It is the type of dumb play that kills you in a close game. Thankfully, we were not in that situation. I've often thought that Nate needs to be T'ed up every time he pulls up and slaps the backboard on a dunk. quote] Ranch You are totally and completely WRONG! I went back this morning and watched the sequence - Nate had to grab that rim to stop propulsion and then pull up to stop propulsion of his legs into the backboard. One tiny allowance I'll give you is that he could have the chin up 1 cm lower. When you have a bullet train launching from way out - this is a pretty awesome weight flying thru the air. Now most big men are not the the Cat brothers (Jason, Jabril, Markel) who could probably land safely). The rim stuff is for their SAFETY primarily. A 6'8 rocket is going to hit the backboard or end up crumpled in a heap if they are not allowed to break their mo. The technical stuff is from another day when most big men couldn't do this stuff. In 1 and 2/3 years they haven't called this on anyone on our team - so why now? Just a really stupid stupid call with no consderation of the players safety. III didn't pull Nate if you noticed. All the team was jived up - the crowd -everyone. The ref was not considering what implications his call will have on the future - unless this get straightened out at headquarters it will not be good for basketball and will result in a lot of serious injuries. We're so worried now about concussions - so what's this chicken s==t call about!!! III should be on the phone this AM to the Commisioner to get this straightened out pronto. The flying fastbreak megadunk is one of the most exciting and crowd pleasing plays in all of BB- even the announcers couldn't stop talking about it.

My point was that KJones wasn't a BE POY candidate as a soph. But I remember him to be a consistent threat since he's been at WVU and now that it is his turn to be a leader you get a bigtime player. Nate has the skill set to be that type of player. But when Hollis , Jason, and Henry are gone and it should be Nate's turn to lead, it will be Otto and Hop being listed as BE POY candidates................

You do realize if Nate played like Kevin Jones as a soph he'd be the best player on G'town right now? I say again Nate will never live up to your expectations. I really like both Otto and Hopkins however neither will be listed as BE poy candidates next season.. Just don't want you to be disappointed next season

IMHO, that play was a statement by Nate about the frustrating season he has had and notice that he is still an offensive threat to be dealt with. Interestingly, both the dunk and the T seemed to energize both the crowd and the team. He has held the rim and/or slapped the backboard many times before and that was one of the more outrageous but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Obviously the other players wanted to give that moment to Nate and to share it with the crowd.

Whether or not Nate hanging on the rim was stupid and deserved a technical is a matter for another discussion. (Dunking can be a dangerous play. So, it is usually better to dunk, grab onto the rim, and gather yourself before releasing to the floor; than to dunk, fall awkwardly to the floor, and twist or tear up a knee or ankle.) But, the Hoyas need Nate to play with that type of force, confidence, and might I say arrogance that he displayed. That attitude has been missing from his game. He needs to translate that type of force to the rest of his game. If he can bring it like that in other parts of his game, his play will make the Hoyas an even more formidable team.

I loved the dunk. Don't care for the T--and guys are right--Lubick has had this coming--he's avoided it to this point--but I also agree with guys who said "Who cares? Nice to see from him/this team?", because the previous half the Hoyas had chances to dunk it 3-4 times and nobody attempted 1 and all 4 missed the bunnies--hell the GUHoyas site has a pic of all the misses too. DUNK THE BALL! Try to DUNK THE BALL and amazing how even on a miss, often refs will give you a call. BTW--why we're talking about the dunk--how about the sweet pass from Jabril--initially was worried it would be a botched break attempt as I thought he should've hit Jason to his left--but the sweet pass to the trailer for a thunder dunk was Play of the Day and Nate needed that. Great execution and everyone filled lanes hard and perfectly executed break. I'll say this if Nate gets chance to do same Wednesday--save the chin up on rim and just come down and smack a Cuse guy running back up the court instead.

The pass from Jabril was awesome. I honestly didn't think any player on our team has even seen a big man trailing on the break, but I guess Jabril was looking.

Big E, Nate got a technical because he pulled up on the rim unnecessarily. Pretty simple. The only reason Nate's legs get launched upward is because he hangs on the rim to begin with, which causes the top part of the body to stop and the bottom part of his body to swing forward like a pendulum. If he dunks and doesn't hang for that extra split second, his body will land feet first in a balanced manner - just like everyone else who dunks normally.
Nate had this coming. He does it a lot, and it is always a close call on whether he is hanging unnecessarily. I just hope this incident will remind him that the stupid chin up/backboard slap he does is not a smart basketball play. For a guy who's supposed plus to the team is smart, heady play, it is silly he does it.
A thunder dunk without the unnecessary chin up would have accomplished the same exact excitement and juice to the team and crowd. In fact, more so, because the T serves to quiet the crowd and gives the opponent FTs to break the momentum of the play. Just dumb all the way around.

He must've been looking through the back of his head because he didn't even feign a glance back to Nate...he just knew he was trailing and the bounce pass was perfectly delivered.

What is up with Hopkins being the Judge (i.e. always on the bench)?

watching the WVU/Prov game, the Rig east commercial has Hollis hanging on the rim twice as long as Nate. Give Vanilla a break, come on, be fair,

The logic behind the rule is just stupid. Hanging on the rim is seen as taunting and being a poor sport. Stupid PC culture. Grow up babies no college kid is getting their feelings hurt by someone hanging on the rim. I have no problem with them cracking down on players actually taunting each other, but what's next will players be banned from chest bumping after big plays, will high fives be banned too?

What is up with Hopkins being the Judge (i.e. always on the bench)? Are you talking about Mike Hopkins, the Cuse ass't coach? You can't be talking about Mikael Hopkins, who played as much as Whittington yesterday, and more than Jabril the game before.

The way that Nate jumped, had he just let go of the rim instantly he would have landed flat on his face. The kid is huge. It's hard for him to just stop himself after the run. Also loved the pass by Jabril. Could have sworn a turnover was coming but he played it perfectly. Kind of stuttered just enough before the pass to clear the room for Nate.
