Now that I am resigned to GU's fate as a likely NIT entry, I am starting to follow some of the lesser known schools that can make some noise in the early rounds of the Dance.
In that spirit, there was some good play out of Vermont today and an emotional win to close out Coach Brennan's career at that school. Always good to see the players and fans get caught up in the emotion of a conference title game and have a spirited celebration at the end.
They played a tough OOC schedule and did a decent job with it considering what they were up against.

living in VT, I've followed the team the past 3 years and they can easily knock out a team or two this year. Coppenrath is great, and Brennan should thank him every time he sees him. Brennan and the program was horrible until this group of seniors, and I feel bad for the incoming coach because there is no talent coming back at all. That being said, I hope they ride this team and coach out as long as they can. As a Vermonter I am extremely proud of this team and nice to see the national recogintion.

Coppengrath was unbelievable. I wonder how he'd play if matched up against uconn's frontcourt Happened in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament, albeit against the Emeka Okafor version of UConn. 3-17 from the field, 4-6 from the line, 2 boards, 1 assist, 12 points.

;D Have loved this team ever since actually meeting them in '03. Around the luggage carousel at the Denver airport after their plane (bound for Salt Lake City) and the one with my family and me (bound for Boise) were both recalled to the terminal from the tarmac as operations shut down due to a blizzard. wildcat.arizona.edu/papers/96/116/02_springbreak_7.htmlThat was the year Matt Sheftic had returned to the team after sitting out a season due to his sister's untimely death. I had tickets for both NCAA rounds in SLC and missed the chance to see the Thursday games -- the Catamounts managed to get out via charter flight from Colorado Springs, arriving in SLC at 1AM on the day of their game, but we were still stuck in Denver until late Thursday night along with thousands of other standbys. I'd like to think UVM helped "soften up" the Arizona Wildcats for the Zags, who then played in that double OT instant classic on Saturday. Thankfully, we did make it to Salt Lake in time to use our tickets and attend that game.
