I am not getting the ESPN lack of coverage for a game covering top 20 teams last night. They spend hours on sportcenter replaying the Duke upset and then a bunch of NBA/NFL/BCS coverage. Why aren't they doing highlights of our game & the Kansas/Kansas St. game? Both featured two top 25 teams.
After the ACC departures of Pitt & Cuse I am starting to believe the conspiracy. The only game they don't provide analysis on online that featured top 25 teams was ours. Maybe I am sensitive but I am starting to feel like they really want to put the nail in the BE coffin.

ESPN is short on the BEast, at their own peril

The Orange Bowl was on. Honestly, that is all there is to it. There is some much money wrapped up in that putrid game matching two bad teams.

To add insult to injury, Scott Van Pelt (or whatever his name is) on Sportscenter mispronounced Hollis' name on the highlights referring to him as Hollis Thompkins. Really pretty pathetic.

I was actually referring to the highlights as I tivoed a two hour run of sportcenter and saw nothing. Shameful.

Give him a break. He's from UMCP. So, you know, it's entirely possible that he can't read. I will always enjoy seeing Kzrzyzskzski lose, but I do remember thinking to myself last night when I first saw the Duke-Temple final score: "Well, there goes the coverage of our game."

I'm just thankful that there wasn't any Beth Mowins or Doris Burke and I'm a huge fan of LaPhonso Ellis--dates back to his HS playing days when he and Alonzo went head to head and carried over to him joining T-Wolves late in his career. A tremendous person and a nice addition to ESPN broadcasts. Loves the game, knows the game, and makes points about teams involved--and not the damn drivel that the more "hyped" ESPN analysts do during game telecasts. It's like ESPN emplores their announcers to do studio caliber work during a game telecast and no understanding as to why this takes place.
Fran Fraschilla, Steve Bardo, LaPhonso Ellis, Bilas, are best they have going right now. Much like their CFB telecasts where Blackledge and Nessler are by far their best broadcast team--they seem to punish true talent and reward clowns who have ADD and focus on a million different things and often nothing related to the teams involved--Vitale and Dykes-who has climbed latter for some reason, Jay Williams (a complete disgrace) Hubert (Gummy from Fletch) Davis, Burke (progressive move that has not been backed up by knowledge or excellence) and Gottlieb who acts like the commissioner of CBB.

Burke is the one that confuses me the most. Her first year she was awesome. I've not seen someone do more research on a team. It seemed like she watched about ten games of tape on both teams.
But now she does what the rest of them do (oh, I watch some basketball, I'll read the game notes and the preview articles and talk to the coach for five minutes. I'm good.).

Agree, RDF, Ellis did a good job -- made some good points and knows his stuff. He can be a little annoying / repetitive at times, but I like him (even though he is an ND guy!).

I loved when Gummy, during UNC's beatdown of one of their December patsies, openly said that ACC should add UConn and Louisville, to go to 16 from 14. Because with 14, you have 7 team divisions and . . . . wait for it . . . . all the Carolina basketball schools can't play each other twice, and that's JUST NOT FAIR!!!

After enjoying the Hoya victory on ESPN, I noticed that the Duke-Temple game was being replayed on ESPNU or ESPN2 so I turned to that station to see the Duke game that was listed but got some documentary. I guess only blowout wins by Duke are worthy of rebroadcasts. Of course there are no fans out there who want to see a Duke loss.

I like Adrian Branch too. If only that he admitted on air that his mom used to have GU season tickets, despite him going to MD. He does do some reseach.

Adrian is good--but he's not on many game telecasts. Burke thinks she's "made" now and she's sucked the past 2 years and with all time low of the friggin "Philly Cheesesteak" angle that is pathetic. "Pat's" or "Gino's"--how about I don't give a flying ..... you ........morons! ;D Hey but we know she "Grew up a Hoya fan and cried when Patrick Ewing lost in '85"--well good thing they won it in '84 Doris, but guess as a fan you wouldn't remember that. She's now going "all NBA" on us incapable viewers and she spews nonsense. Take the mic away and put her back as a sideline reporter--she sucks.

I love black helicopters as much as the next guy, but I really believe there is no ESPN conspiracy at all. Take an institution, litter it with refugees from the Bernie Fine School of Child Development and see the incompetence. It's really that simple.

You know the Burke thing is really amazing. She was really really good her first year. I remember thinking she was insightful, moderate with praise, and limited her comments. Those three things are really what make a great broadcast. (not to color analysts...you don't have to fill every second of every min on air with talk, some silence is okay, sometimes allowing the play by play guy to update everyone on player fouls, who is on the court, rebound / TO stats etc...is a good thing.
I just don't know what happened to burke. she might be my least favorite now, even more than dickie v, because she seems condecending now...

I just don't know what happened to burke. ESPN happened. You don't go very far on the Worldwide Leader by being knowledgeable and understated. But I still think she's better than average with respect to the rest of their roster.

But then where will we get the amazing insight on who has the best smile in the Big East? Was it Flynn or Kemba, maybe both, but you couldn't go 5 minutes without her talking about their amazing smile. I like Adrian Branch too. Bob Knight is awesome because he knows Basketball and isn't afraid to be honest. He's not trying to make friends.
Bilas is great because he still does his homework and is able to couch criticism well so he doesn't have to suck up as much.
Raf is great because -- while I don't know how much work he does on the rest of the country -- he knows the BE and basketball. He won't criticize much but he does a great job of doing insight in compliments.
Pretty much everyone else blows chunks at this point.

There's no "conspiracy" -- only a clear understanding of what people are interested in seeing. College basketball, outside of March, plugs the gaps left in by the absence of other sports. To the extent that people do care, ESPN has every interest in talking about the big-name programs -- Duke, UNC, Ohio State, or what have you. Although Georgetown occasionally gets some love, an early-season game against a sagging Marquette program simply won't draw that much interest, particularly given the relatively small fanbases of each.
ESPN doesn't exist to give equal time to basketball results between quality teams, it exists to entertain. Although an even-handed treatment of the night in basketball might have included more coverage, that is not their goal.
