The basketball IQ is pretty high for most NBA teams today, but there is something off with the Wizards on that front, particularly when Wall (a very talented guy) suits up. Wall's high number of assists are almost negated because he is indeed an awful outside shooter and takes too many shots.
That said I'm not going to let Otto off the hook. The Wiz needed him to impose more of his will in terms of how the team plays but unfortunately he allows himself to be pushed to the side whenever sharing the court with both Wall and Beal simultaneously.

The coach isn't Otto's problem. Otto's passiveness and John Wall are though. Oh, and consistent, nagging injuries are an issue too. I've seen several instances where Brooks' substitution patterns in (at least) the first half (e.g., Otto starts, plays six minutes, sits until the mid-second qtr.) appeared to negatively impact Otto's production. Perhaps there's more to the matter regarding Otto specifically, but overall Brooks is a mediocre at best coach.

My guess is that Otto has been playing hurt throughout the playoffs. He sat out a late regular season game, and has not had any explosion to his game in the playoffs. It has really shown on defense, when he struggled to stick with his man (often DeRozan) all series. It is fair to criticize him for his playoff performance, but i think injury has been a significant contributing factor.
Remember that when Wall went out for surgery this winter, Otto initially stepped up and played very well. But his performance dropped off over time. I think that Otto's naturally thin frame, combined with the fact that he gets banged to the floor a lot when he goes to the basket - makes it hard for him to get through a long season physically. He just wears down, and I don't know that there is much he can do about it. No matter how hard he works, he is never going to have the kind of muscle mass that can help a player survive 6 months of NBA-level physicality.

I would like to see a shorter season (less games) in the NBA. Of course, that will cause a decrease in revenue and wages, so I don't think that will happen.

Gang, I haven’t been following much but noticed that Monroe got very few minutes for the C’s. Was it a case of it just being a bad match up for him or is there something more to it?

He played about 8 minutes total over the last four games, after being more or less in the rotation for the first three. The only thing that I can think of is that the Bucks played a smaller lineup, which limits Greg's usefulness. They probably also know his strengths and weaknesses very well as former team mates.

Greg had some success early in the series, but then the Bucks started isolating him on D in pick and roll, and they killed him. Stevens realized that they could not defend the Bucks with Greg on the floor, so he was on the bench for most of the rest of the series.

Greg in the doghouse. DNP in tonight's rout.

Greg is either ineffective against this matchup or done in the NBA. I choose the former.
I hope I'm proven wrong either way.

No way I think Moose is done in the NBA. Stevens clearly shortened his bench for the playoffs and Morris and Horford happen to be indispensable at the moment. Its tough watching him sit there. He's a 12 and 8 guy for most any other team.

Hard to imagine that Greg is DNP while a New Zealand journeyman named Baynes and a 6 ft 7 second rd pick named Ojelaye are playing center for Boston.

Hard to imagine that Greg is DNP while a New Zealand journeyman named Baynes and a 6 ft 7 second rd pick named Ojelaye are playing center for Boston. Greg had a pretty good run with the Celtics at the end of the regular season, especially offensively and on the glass and was part of the regular rotation. He has struggled on the defensive end of the floor for the Celtics since he arrived and as soon as the playoffs started he was getting exposed on defensive in certain match ups. The Bucks kept running sets to get the Greek Freak matched up on Greg and he just could not handle him. Ojelaye came in and did a much better job on him and he has kept that playing time since then. Having Greg try to cover Embiid for the 76'ers is not a good match up for him either. If the match ups change, and the Celtics need some low post scoring they may go back to Greg, but for now he is not likely to see much time.

So I hope that those of you who were slobbering over the Celtics because Monroe is with them are now rethinking that. Go Sixers.
Have to admit, though, Brad Stevens is doing a fantastic job.

Gotta admire your doggedly persistent West Coast bias. Big respect for someone that sticks to their principles. Disclosure: Boston area resident here, but only for 30 years. Celtics? Meh. Stevens? Worth every penny and then some.

I'm going to keep saying this over and over again. The Wiz need to move Wall while he still has value and before his new contract kicks in. When that new contract kicks in, it be will like anchor tied to their feet as no team is going to give them anything worth any value. Grunfeld needs to get on the phone with Phoenix and see how many young assets and draft picks he can pry out their hands... If Porter is moved, I would love to see him in San Antonio with a coach, system and atmosphere that I feel Otto could thrive really in.
