I would like to see Copeland get some of that me-first attitude.

As someone pointed out earlier, some of the "blame" for Otto's sporadic PT lies with himself. The NBA is pretty much a run and gun league and/ or physical style of play. He waits for the game to "come to him" and rarely forces the action on offense. As a result, he can go several minutes without taking a shot, and rarely gets to the free throw line. The easiest way for him to score on the Wiz, is simply getting to the corner and shooting the three, after Wall drives down the lane. Hopefully as he hits more threes, Wall will trust him more with that shot. I do agree that Wittman is a mediocre coach, and has not given Otto enough time to gain some confidence. Related to what you just posted. www.csnwashington.com/basketball-washington-wizards/talk/wizardstalk-mailbag-whats-wrong-gortat-bealIf he plays the way he has in the last two games, yes. But Porter's problem is he's not as assertive and that disrupts the offense with the second unit. They want him to shoot the ball, take his man off the dribble and create for others and when it's there for him be a bit selfish. He's skill-wise the best of the bunch off the bench to fill that role but doesn't always play that way. That's why Rasual Butler had jumped ahead of him in the rotation. He needs an injection of Butler's confidence and mental toughness. This is bs and lacks basketball knowledge. If you wanna involve someone you need to use their strengths. Rip Hamilton never "took people off the dribble" didn't shoot 3s and scored very well. Run some plays other than high ball screen with a 4 or 5 and have two wings in the corner. That shows the framework of stupidity that lies in Whitman and also those that cover the team that think that is the only way to run a team.

Rip Hamilton may not have been a driver of the ball but he was extremely aggressive with his ability to run off of screens and get and TAKE his mid range shots. It's a learning process for Otto, and Whitman isn't just going to give Otto minutes or call plays for him simply because he was the number 3 pick. I believe Whitman is a good coach because it's his way or sit, no politics with him. This is GOOD FOR OTTO, will make him a better player and force him to be aggressive. I've already noticed Otto being more aggressive off the dribble and he's been more effective in the offense. Say what you want about Whitman but he has a ton of experience and bball knowledge and as a Wizards fan, I appreciate what he has brought to the team.

Whitman had the worst winning percentage of any coach in NBA history that had coached 500 games. He is only winning because of the talent here. The talent here is better than the Hawks. You know why the Hawks are winning??? Coaching. I know Wizards fans think he is the reason they are winning but you could have Ty Corbin another terrible coach in there and you would get similar results. As for the Hamilton thing, The Wizards don't run anything to get mid range sbots. The ones they take are long 2's off pick and roll that have isolation shots cause the clock is running down. The Wiz lead the NBA in 20-22 foot shots attempts even with all the 3's they shoot. The pistons ran pin downs for shots it wasn't about aggresiveness. The play was for Rip to get a shot in an area he was comfortable with. The wiz never do that for anyone. They should be giving Beal those chances. I feel like quoting Jay-z here about Whitman " is this who you really want to place your faith"

The difference between the wizards and the hawks isn't because of offense. The difference is that the hawks play better defense than any team in the league right now. Every shot is contested. They remind me of Virginia. I watched the hawks play my pistons a few weeks ago and I came away thinking that even though we kept the game close, we are light years away from the hawks right now. And that was with Jennings. The wizards can score with any team in the league but until they get serious about D they won't get pass Atlanta or Chicago. I don't think anyone plays D in Washington but Wall. And he is sometimey.

It's the offense.

The Wizards are already at the very least as good as the Bulls, not worried about them at all but the Hawks are revolutionizing the game. They've won 32 of their last 34 and very well may be the best team in the league. They have dominated all in their path and their coach has to be given all the credit.

Yes the NBA is a stars league but coaching is what separates the teams that win to the teams that dont. Talent wise the Spurs shouldn't beat the Heat but they did. I am not saying the Spurs don't have great players, I am saying that teams that are not prepared well don't win come playoff time. Let me put it this way. The Wizards shouldn't have won that series against the Pacers last year. Coaching is the reason why. People can say experience but when things got tough. The wizards took bad shots and had terrible possessions. Wittman is to blame. I am a huge Wizards fan. This isn't some stick up for Otto. I follow the NBA closely for what I do for a living. I am not offering some opinion not shared by others.

If you're going to criticize the guy, at least get his name right! Wittman!! Wow, thanks SS, I really thought I was spelling his name correctly. My bad. Sigh yes because typing 1 T instead of 2 is so important lol. I think alot of this stems from people in Washington not knowing what a winning team looks like or plays like. So when you see this team not able to beat the top teams like Atlanta which has beaten them by 20+ everytime. You don't understand why.

Not to mention "Whitman" is standard spelling. Sure, more usual spelling but that's not his name so there's nothing "standard" about it. Josh Smith plays for Georegtown, right? Oh, that's "standard" but if he matriculated as Josh Smythe, would you say that's okay? Call the guy by his name. Aside from the fact that "Whitman" is of English origin while "Wittman" is Germanic. I've been drinking after the Hoyas victory. This accounts for this comment.

Looks like another double double for Greg, 17 and 9 with 3 minutes left in 3rd. Pistons thumping Houston.

Greg is having another fine season. I feel like is he is very very close to being an NBA All-Star. I will be surprised if he does not make at least one All Star appearance.

Amazing how much of a difference the jettisoning of Josh Smith has made not only to Greg, but to the Pistons as a whole. Just shows how critical it is to have the right mix.
