Would we rather have the prestige of making the NCAA tourney in T3's first year? Impartial observers would give us little chance of making it out of the first weekend.
Or, would we rather play in the NIT - a tournament we could win!
The added advantage of the NIT, is it would bring our Hoyas back to MSG on March 29th, where JahidiHoya, Megafan, DTrain, HoyaChick, JerseyHoya, YB, and I would welcome all of you to our "Garden Party" -- for the semifinals and finals! I'd love to see our young team get on a roll, win a few games in a row, and take the title.

The only real upside I see to us playing in the NIT this year is that our young team should get more big game, tournament experience.

That is the "only real upside" but what other upside would there be? Honestly, the only upside for the NCAAs would be prestige. Any postseason helps and the NIT would be good for this team.
2001 turned triple-OT in 2000 versus a snubbed UVA team into 25 wins. This team could certainly do the same.

NCAA's without a question, yes it would be great to get the extra experience of more games in the NIT but it is against lesser comp and the program would still be an NIT program. Not to mention we could easily go down just as early in the NIT against a hot team with a chip on their shoulder on their home floor.
While fewer games there is a lot to be said for the experience of going to the big dance, especially if we expect to go deep next year. The NIT is a much different experience, without the national hype of march madness and also it is almost always at campus arenas until MSG. It is a different feeling playing in front of a mostly neutral crowd - (of course our guys have more experience than most for that playing at the phone booth.)
It has been a long time since we were in the dance, we need to be back there for recruiting, for exposure, for alumni and for player experience. Puts us more on the map for pre-season rankings next year too.
everyone here seems to think it impossible for us to make the cut on sunday but if MD, and Va tech have a chance with their resume then we are looking good even if we dont get brownie points for being on the court at the same time as the great reddick. actually just playing against duke should count as 5 RPI points since you must learn so much just by being near those great players. Coach K probably does some charity coaching to the other team also because he is such a humanitarian.

I really don't think there's much of an argument here. It's NCAA's all the way. That's what we've been playing for all year.
The NIT "experience factor" isn't worh a thing. Our guys have played in big games. We've played in MSG. I so want Brandon Bowman to be able to say he played in an NCAA tournament game.
The advertisement you get from even one NCAA tournament game is worth winning the NIT championship five years in a row. Recruits want to play in the NCAAs.

But you're right, I'd be more likely to get to the NIT final than the NCAA final, so for the fun with the chatboard guys factor, it's NIT all the way.

While I have said I am looking forward to the NIT, the answer is still definitely NCAA, for all the reasons put forth by tgo.

Lets see, would you rather go on a date with Katie Holmes knowing that she probably won't call you for a second (but she might) or go on a date with Star Jones knowing you'll get a kiss goodnight and maybe more (I just threw up my mouth).
Nice question Sir.

Brandon WILL be able to say he played in an NCAA tournament game... next year. I agree that we still have a SLIM chance for this year. Unlikely? Yes. Possible by some stretch of the imagination? Sure. If the Maryland "We lost to Clemson three times, twice at home" Twerps still have a chance, so do we. In other news, Go UCONN. Syracuse makes me sick.

The thought of borrowing JahidiHoya's dog mask is sorely tempting ...... ;D ;D ;D
Throw in a tricycle and I'm there!

The thought of another Cafe 31 journey just put a huge smile on this dog's face!
I will be riding the tricycle like Lance Armstrong if they will let me back!
That dog mask has been through some battles. One day I hope to be wearing it when JTIII is cutting down the nylon!
