Nate Lubick is now in danger of morphing into Julian Vaughn on offense. The kid hustles as much as any player in the game and no one can question his toughness or his willingness to to make pass or go to the floor. However, he simply seems to have no confidence in his shot at any distance other than lay-up. Too many times he is in the lane and has space to take the shot, but passes. Okay against NJIT and Howard, but if this does not change soon, he will be a liability on offense as teams will simply back off and look to take away passing lanes. When that happens he will lose even more playing time to the freshmen.

agreed, Cal, not only that the other teams can play 5 on 4 if he isn't going to shoot. let's hope Vanilla gets his confidence back.

An accurate comment, but maybe not a fair one considering how horribly other people also played yesterday. For example, he wasn't among those who went 1-for-13 on 3s. And he did lead the team in boards and assists, though the latter isn't saying much.
Anyway, just adding context. We all want the same thing for him and his role.

Again, after seeing the game yesterday in person, he looked just a very tad slow, a very tad not quick enough and more than a tad hesitant to take a shot. He's going to get fouled on some of those esp in the paint and tho he is not a great foul shooter, it will rack up fouls on the oppentents bigger men and count toward 7/half. I just don't get why is so hesitant to shoot esp when we need someone to get hot.

When Nate and Whit are on the floor at the same time we have two of our five that are not offensive threats.

Nate just needs to be confident and take shots he's comfortable with but also just be a threat. He's going to have to fight through "slump" for the team to be at it's best by end of year. Lubick's one of those players you need to get on for not being aggressive/confident. I could care if he misses a shot as long as it's a good look and he's not forcing something-but he should get yanked if he's 10 feet from hoop and won't even look at rim--then he's hurting team and himself. Dribble into shooting range and make a team account for your presence. If not--then you need to sit until you do. Nothing wrong with missing a shot if it's a good one or making a physical mistake--but mental mistakes/lacking confidence and hurting team by being so passive/timid, needs to be addressed.
Whittington seems to be going through typical FR stuff--and he'll be fine. Talent is there--just needs to learn/polish things up.

Getting out 17-0 ironically was probably bad, because they thought this is going to be a blowout. You could already see the rustiness of the layoff in that initial run, where they weren't getting those layups to fall. Since I didn't see anything after 23-5, I imagine we shut down.

I watched the game this morning and my only issue with this game is why didnt we make a better effort to run the offense thru Sims? So we got off to the quick start and thats great but after mid way thru the first half our shots stopped dropping. Why not pound the ball into Sims. Sims has been great this year. If the threes arent dropping, go inside or at the very least drive to the hoop.

Agree to an extent richfame. I thought they actually were pretty good about trying to get to the hole when the threes weren't dropping. Hollis had a couple aggressive drives with mixed results. I definitely agree Sims didn't get as many post touches as I would have liked, but they were really packing it in particularly once they saw we weren't shooting well from outside. The double teams were coming quickly.
Sims had a great dribble drive move and finished with his left. Really, really like that move when has some room to operate at the top of the key or the elbow. Not a whole lot of big guys can stay with his first step.

It's hard for me to take anything from this game, other than it smelled like dookie.

Once he fouled out is when Sims and the Hoyas were able to take back control of the game. Also Sims had 4 fouls too.
