I watched your game last night and couldn't help but draw some comparisons between this years Hoyas team and our team of a few years ago (Wright's first season). In his first year we finished with 19 wins, and lost in the BE quarterfinals to UConn, on a last second three by Gordon (a dagger to our NCAA hopes). We all felt that we were one game shy of getting an NCAA bid that year, much like this years GU team.
JT III has done a lot, and with Eshericks' players, just as Wright was able to do a lot with Lappas' players in that first year. I get the feeling that once he gets his own players in the mix, JT III will be able to really get this team going. He did get sort of lucky with Green falling on his lap, but hey, that's all good. That was obviously a great recruiting job by Esh.
In any event, I hope you end up doing better than we did in these next 2 seasons (NIT both times).
Good luck the rest of the way.

Interesting comparison.
If anything, it might speak to the difficulty of incorporating new stars into a team that is returning almost everyone.
Of course, our incoming class is not nearly as heralded as the Foye-Ray-Sumpter-Fraser crew, and I doubt we'll get four immediate starters out of it, but how did players like Snowden and Buchanan handle younger players who were less experienced or more talented?
How did you not make the tourney the next year, only losing one player?
The heralded Barrett-Toney-El-Griffin class of Seton Hall exploded because of the tensions between the youngsters and pushed aside elders like Ty Shine. Then again, Shine had made the NCAAs the year before.

How did you not make the tourney the next year, only losing one player? We had 3 average BE players as seniors combined with 4 freshman who thought they could take over the league, plus the phone card supsensions. All that adds up to the NIT. A dissapointing end to say the least, which defnitely set us back a bit. I believe the Hoyas will be on a faster track back to the NCAAs than Nova.

The heralded Barrett-Toney-El-Griffin class of Seton Hall exploded because of the tensions between the youngsters and pushed aside elders like Ty Shine. Then again, Shine had made the NCAAs the year before. And that remarkable coaching accomplishment got Amaker the job at Michigan. Amazing.

If it's true that UVA is considering hiring Amaker, what are they thinking? I work with a UVA alum and he is luke warm about TA, rightfully so.

lukewarm is way too much interest in a guy who has yet to do anything as a head coach

Yes, wildhoya. I'm sure that play seemed familiar to all g'town fans! Same ref, BTW. Unbelievable. Thought the call was fair. If you want to say that Ray pushed him after he released the ball, then perhaps you have a case, but to suggest that the ref should have just NOT called it because there was so little time left is just wrong. You cant just shove a guy and expect that anything goes with no time left on the clock. Anyway, the difference between JTIII and Wright starts with the fact that Jay had his own recruits his first year. JTIII didnt, though he surely got some talent, theyre not necessarily "his players" in that they have to adapt to his system. Also, this years upcoming class, and surely last years, in terms of ratings, dont touch the "fab 4" of Ray/foye/fraser/sumpter. Also you have to factor in the change in the conference. If the Big East werent changing, Im confident we could make the NCAAs next year, but itll be tough with Louisville, Cincinatti and Co. coming over. Nonethless, Nova fans have bided their time and will get their tourney run this year. Im confident that we will get our run within the next couple years as well. Rome wasnt built in a day, and good things come to those who wait.

Yes, wildhoya. I'm sure that play seemed familiar to all g'town fans! Same ref, BTW. Unbelievable. Weren't you the one about a month ago on here saying that Pat Driscoll was one of your picks for the best Big East referee? Or was that Buckeye? I was definitely having that conversation with one of the Villanova fans. I guess that opinion might have changed after this season! The moral of the story--better play solid defense until the buzzer, or else somebody leaks behind the defense for an outlet pass or comes darting in from the wing for an offensive boardl. And Pat Driscoll gets his name in the paper--for making two correct calls, I might add.
