sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?page=2005bubblewatch"And then there were seven" left in the Big East. Texas's double digit loss to Colorado notwithstanding they still appear "good to go" They are also "really liking the Cyclones chances" after Iowa St. thumped Baylor....BAYLOR!!! Baylor would go 0-16 in the Big East every year.... IOWA is on the bubble after going 7-9 in the BIG 10!!!! The Big 10 is terrible!! They have a losing record in the Big 10 and they are a bubble team... "If they beat Michigan St.... can you really keep them out?".... This is completely ridiculous. " All Georgetown did was win their first round game (I'm looking at you Texas) and give UConn a dogfight to the bitter end.... ....there is no justice in the world. I wont be able to watch the Selection Show on Sunday bc by the end of it I'll be so angry I wont even be able to see straight.

Whatever. Lunardi still has us on the bubble. He knows what he's doing.

I can fully accept not making the tournament under one condition, and that condition is that Notre Dame and Maryland are also out. These are three major conference teams that all have similar records, and all stumbled at the end. All three had some quality wins this year taking out teams like BC, Duke, Nova, Pitt, and West Virginia, some of those on the road. But you have to get it done down the stretch, and all three had their chances to play their way in.
If ND or the Terps get in, I will be leading the Internet drumbeat about how much of a political joke the selection process has become.

To be completely objective - we do not deserve to be in based on our play the few weeks. That said, the maddening thing Sunday will be seeing others that are less deserving get selected. No one should go dancing with a losing record in their conference - I don't care if it's the ACC, The BE, the Big 12 or the NBA.

We proved last night that we should be in. We'd beat many many teams that will make the tourney.

Andy Glockner has hated us for years.
And he's said as much, in a chat this year or last.

There can be no objective argument about the idea that ND deserves to be in long before we do. They finished one game better in the conference than we did, despite playing a tougher conference schedule: Nova, Syracuse, Pitt, and UConn all twice. They also beat then-undefeated BC, which scored major PR points.
I don't see how losing to Rutgers on a neutral floor is clearly worse than losing at home to Providence, not to mention we laid that extra egg at St. John's.
Did I mention they were 9-7 in the conference while we were 8-8? End of discussion.
Its funny. Anyway you slice it, the Providence loss cost us a bid. Without, I think we're ahead of ND by a nose.
(Note: Nowhere does this post say that ND deserves to be in. I take no position on this. But that they are ahead of the Hoyas in the queue is clear.)

Actually, BD, if you want to be technical about it, we are 9-9 in the BE, and ND is 9-8 (including tournament games)...

we lost to oral roberts, who lost to umkc who lost to chicago state, who lost to centenary who lost to LA Monroe who lost to nicholls state who lost to sam houston state who lost to binghampton who lost to maryland-baltimore city who lost to james madison, who lost to howard who lost to the hoyas. That means we're in right?

Anyway, while I don't think we played our way into the tourney I think there will be teams selected who are equally or less worthy who get the nod. Perhaps this question should start a new thread, but: Should there be a limit to the auto bids? Perhaps the top 'x' rated conferences get autobids rather than the amount we have now? I like the idea of more at large bids and teams throughout conferences fighting for those spots rather than one below average team from the Sun Valley Moondust Southern Indian Ocean Sky Conference playing Illinois.

I'm on record in another thread: no automatic bids. But I suppose that might dilute the conference tourneys for a lot of teams.

I have to agree with you Big Dog the Providence game was the nail in the coffin. Other than that loss the Hoyas had beaten all the teams they were supposed to beat at home. The only other significant loss was to St Johns, but that was at there place. I believe after the St Johns game the young Hoyas got tight when they knew one win down the stretch would make them 9-7 in the BE and a lock for the NCAA. The win against the Hall and the close game with UConn were huge and will give these Young Hoyas momentum in the NIT.

Right rooter, ND went 9-8 in the Big East. If they get in and we don't, I at least can comprehend it.
But a 7-10 Maryland team or an 8-10 NC State team would be terrible. I know the ACC "has great teams at the top" but NC State also lost to FSU, UVA, VA Tech, and Miami.
Under .500 is just never good enough. That goes for Iowa too. They won't get Pierce back so their 7-9 is what it is; not good enough for a tournament bid.
