Had to bring Otto's thread back to the first page. He was quietly efficient last night, and played pretty good D himself, just overshadowed by Whitt and JT.

On that note, did Jabril play against Dion Waiters in HS? For facing him alone, I hope we get more PT for Jabril.

Didn't see this posted anywhere else -- from Luke Winn's power ranking (Jan 12) and discussion of Porter: Georgetown Hoyas (13-3) Of Power Ranked teams, Syracuse has the full-time starter who averages the least minutes per game. (You saw that chart in blurb No. 1.) Rival Georgetown, it turns out, has the bench player who averages the most minutes per game. As much as Dion Waiters is regarded as the nation's super-sub, Hoyas sixth man Otto Porter gets five more minutes per game, and like Waiters, adds plenty of value on both ends of the floor. From ranked teams, these are the 10 guys who get the most PT but have never started a game: Most Mins by 100% Non-Starters (Min. 15 games) Rk. Player, Team Min/G G/GS PPG 1. Otto Porter, Georgetown 27.4 16/0 8.1 2. Ben Brust, Wisconsin 26.9 17/0 9.9 3. Pierre Jackson, Baylor 26.6 16/0 11.9 4. Mike Dixon Jr., Missouri 25.9 15/0 12.8 5. C.J. Fair, Syracuse 25.3 17/0 8.6 6. Gary Browne, West Virginia 23.3 17/0 6.4 7. Dion Waiters, Syracuse 22.1 17/0 12.5 8. Malcolm Brogdon, Virginia 20.9 15/0 6.8 9. Sam Dower, Gonzaga 19.1 15/0 9.5 10. I'm still waiting on Otto to really get his shot back. Earlier this year he had a spell where his shot went flat. Lately things look better, where even on his misses the ball is landing much softer, however he's still not shooting as well as he can. This is the kind of player who shoots 80% from the line....not the 65% he's shooting so far this season. One adjustment I think he is working through is the fact that this is really the first time he's been involved in a good strength program. Even though he is still thin, a lot of people around here have noticed how much bigger he's already gotten. I think once he gets his feel back, your going to see that 8.1ppg get up to double digits.

Otto looked really impressive on Sunday. He does so many things well and is always in the right spot. His handle looks even better in person.

Scouts were salivating by the time Maui was over.
What's interesting to me is that he is projected higher than Hollis for 2013.

Love his effort, play and intelligence, but this kid still has much to develop. He is not yet a great ballhandler, needs to continue improve his defense against smaller, quick players and still has a very inconsistent outside shot. Rebounding is very good, but in the NBA the opponents will be just as athletic and much stronger.
I can see him progressing to the point that he leaves after 2 years, but I think that some of this talk is very premature. Otto is a great addition and obviously one of the best freshmen the Hoyas have had in some time, but his weaknesses exist and we need to be realistic in expectations. 8 points and 8 rebounds a game would be fantastic.

I can honestly say that I think he stays all 4 years. Yes hes unreal at rebounding, passing etc but he is too slow to guard nba 3's, and still is not close to making jumpers. At least when whittington was missing early in the season they were in and out for the most part. Otto on the other hand has not come even close to hitting iron outside of 3 feet for the better part of this season. Maybe im being harsh or maybe deep down I just want him to stay all 4 years

His mid-range is okay. It's the deep J that he has to work on. Getting stronger will help with that. In the offseason, working on his handle, getting stronger and his jumper will be essential.

I'm home sick today and had nothing better to do than watch the SJU/G'town game again. I then decided to watch each one of Otto's rebounds in super slow-mo (sad but true). Its remarkable how he can navigate through traffic and not only get a board that he has no business getting, but his second jump is so quick that defenses don't know what hit them when he goes back up for a quick lay up. Don't think I've seen a Hoya with this exact skill set ever.

Here is recent interview/story by Fox 5 on Otto. www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/sports/freshman-otto-porter-opening-eyes-to-help-in-hoyas-strong-start-012012As far as leaving early, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've said it before, but Otto is not going to go until he is absolutely ready. He does just about everything well now, but still has a lot of room for improvement. I think calhoya hit the nail on the head with the things that he needs to improve before making that next jump. He also needs to continue to get stronger. One thing most people don't realize is that he is very young for his class (won't turn 19 until June), so he is just now getting to the point where he's stopped growing. As a result, it should now be easier put on some weight and fill out his frame.

If he is 19 this year he may still be growing even for part of next season, although I have not seen his growth plates so this is all conjecture. Still can you imagine his rebounding if he gets even 1/2 to 1 inch taller or gets another 1/2 inch on his wingspan? While he is young compared to many basketball players, he is 6 months older than Roy Hibbert was his freshman year and about the same age as a freshman Jeff Green. For comparison to other schools, OJ Mayo was a 21 year old freshman.
