Wow, I never thought I would live to see an actual team win at NCAA XC--great job by all the runners and coaching job by Chris Miltenburg!

Here are your 2011 Women's NCAA Cross Country Champions
========================================================== 1 3 187 Emily Infeld SR 9:53 19:45 2 33 193 Claire Richardson SR 10:04 20:38 3 36 188 Emily Jones JR 10:00 20:41 4 44 189 Kirsten Kasper JR 10:05 20:46 5 46 185 Katrina Coogan FR 10:12 20:47 6 (121) 190 Annamarie Maag FR 10:18 21:25 7 (151) 192 Hannah Neczypor FR 10:25 21:46
The places for the team scoring are the final placings for the individual, removing the runners not on a team, but running as at-large runners. The at-large runners usually place high, because they became at-large runners, because of their high placings at regionals.

A comment on letsrun.com:
"UW women were jumping up and down but Gtown wins it."
======
So typical. Coach Metcalf tells them they won, beating out Villanova. He forgot that Georgetown and other teams were in the same race (LOL). Actually I feel sorry for his team getting so excited about their non-win, and then finding out the real results.

Perfect symmetry for the women: started out as pre-season #1 pick and ended the season #1 in the nation. Congratulations!!!

Great group running by the 2-5 women, who were separated by only nine seconds and 13 places. Of course, having Emily up front sealed the deal.

Nevada, awesome 2-5 pack running. I was watching on Flotrack and Emily was easy to find since she was always near the front of the pack but i didn't see any other Hoya for most of the race. When they panned to the finish line i saw some 40 runners go by after Emily and i said to myself "oh no" and then suddenly it was Georgetown Georgetown Georgetown Georgetown with a couple of Villanova runners mixed in between them (and former Hoya Jillian King). All of them bunched together. Great team effort.
Oh, and i do feel bad, well not really, for the Washington girls. They truly believed they won and they were jumping up and down right next to the Nova girls who were all quiet.

Oh, and i do feel bad, well not really, for the Washington girls. They truly believed they won and they were jumping up and down right next to the Nova girls who were all quiet. And you could see on their faces that Florida State, the favorite, did not win. Those were anxious moments for me, because I had thought UW had won. Great joy, when they announced that the Hoyas had won. Still nervous, because that was still unofficial and the race was obviously close. Too bad Jillian was not still on the team. But no, she wanted to go to the traitors of BC.

And just throwing it out there. Abbey was injured her freshman cross country season and she goes to Dartmouth. And Nevada, you know the ivies policy on redshirts. Still a few years away but you never know.
