Fox sports is just as much a player in the battle for network content. They are partners in the PAC12 and B1G stuff and the blow up in the B12 was really a turf war between the two networks, round one was FOX getting Colo and Nebraska to leave the B12 and go to Fox players. Round two was ESPN getting the Longhorn Network and saving the B12. The A &M move was revenue neutral for ESPN.
Finally the PITT and SUcks move was a slap on the BE for not doing the new TV deal. WVU was a further slap at the BE.

FOX and ESPN are desperate. The fact is that the day is coming when the conferences will no longer need these types of networks to broadcast their games. Networks like the Big 10 network are the future. Fox and ESPN are just trying to delay the inevitable.

I don't think Fox and ESPN are desperate. Fox owns just under half of the Big Ten Network, for example.
It is a toughening competitive environment, with Fox ramping up when only ESPN used to play, NB looking like they finally might get back into sports with Comcast, and the content owners finally being able to exercise power because of the dynamic between Fox and ESPN.
But desperate is a strong word.

As long as we get more and better coverage, I really treat it as a plus, even though it pains me at times.
