Can't say I'm surprised about any of this. Ugh.
One thing that comes to mind for me with respect to recruiting is that while I want the Hoyas to pursue top talent, I definitely don't want them involved with kids, their parents, handlers or whomever that have their hands out or are conducting themselves questionably.

its the nature of the beast. All coaches go thru it, III is no exception.

I'm glad this is all coming out--for many reasons. Also glad that Jeff was able to avoid Joel Bell. People who follow this stuff have known that Bell was a scumbag for a long time-- even going back to 2005, Jonathan Givony called out Bell as being one of the sketchiest in the game and lost his job over it (see link): www.citmedialaw.org/threats/bell-v-shah#descriptionIf people care about recruiting and want to know how this all comes together, particularly in dealing with DC Assault and for many top prospects like Beasley, this article is must-read. Malone is not the most savory character and the things that we normally talk about in recruiting are irrelevant with a lot of these kids. They're going where the handlers/runners push them, and the handlers/runners are pushing them somewhere that will help them reach their larger objective of cashing in on a kid's talent. All that said, I still don't fully agree with the way Pops handled Georgetown's role in the Jeff situation (unrelated to the article), but it is what it is at this point. FWIW, Austin ultimately stuck with the "DCA Family" and Joel Bell is his current agent.

This should come as no surprise to people who wonder why Malone doesn't like GU.
Also: Dalonte Hill - "I was his big brother and he followed me to a basketball also-ran in the middle of nowhere but I had no idea he was getting paid."

its the nature of the beast. All coaches go thru it, III is no exception. Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports on the subject. EXCERPT:Beasley lays out a litany of payouts and favors from Malone and Bell that may violate state and federal agent laws, as well as NCAA statutes. It may turn into a serious legal case, as well as an NCAA one for Kansas State, where Beasley played for one season.
This is the system though; this is how it works. And while it’s a fascinating window into the underbelly of basketball, it’s also a window that should be viewed from both sides.
It’s too easy to simply blame the supposedly slimy AAU coach or shady agent. They may not be fully pure here. They also may not be completely guilty.
