Sounds like the NCAA may actually lighten some of the extisting restrictions on eval periods, contact, etc. scouthoops.scout.com/2/1119750.htmlI applaud the effort to bring recruiting in line w/ reality. *Thread title updated so as to not lead readers to think the article was solely about GU basketball. Take those comments elsewhere, please.*

I have a point to bring up about recruiting. It seems like most posters or fans think that the better the team does the better chance we have at landing solid recruits. For example, If we have a great season next year the recruits will come, or if we beat alabama were definitley have a better chance at landing recruit X Y or Z.
This line of thinking seems to have no merit lately. We finished the past 2 seasons in dissapointing fashion, yet we land Starks, Porter, and soem scrappy promising recruits. Secondly coming into this season were suppose to finish 10th in the league yet we land DSR. Now we come to this year(2012) We start strong, win some games on national tv and the program is showing crazy promise. So my question is: With all this new found optimism and promise for the next 3 years where are the recruits? Seems that the last 3 or 4 targets we had are off the board. There seems to be a few more nice pieces out there, should we not land some of them? Are we just not in a singing period now?
I dont know if this attitude that ok a big win at bama, or memphis or uconn is really going to help us...??

I'd say One year has minimal impact, much less one month. And it's probably safe to say that while kids might recognize the team doing well, they still don't know Greg or Jabril or even Otto. Not kids they've interacted with on the HS/AAU scene.
The promise of being faces of the 'new' program on the scene isn't there like it was when Vern, DaJuan and Austin signed up before the real success of the Jeff/Roy teams. Over time you kind of lose that selling point that a team like NC State could sell TJ Warren on.
G'Town under III is established, but not quite the ultimate success we all had hoped for the past few years. So, I think Winning is important as ever for this program now to be strong on the trail. Keep doing it, and it will definitely help. Might end up reaping the rewards of this strong young core in '13 and maybe even more so in '14 and hopefully beyond as opposed to the current HS SR's still looking to make decisions.

Personally, I wonder what impact the defections from the BE will have as well.
Considering the talent that Memphis brings in in a horrible conference, is the state of the BE a big concern as far as recruiting goes?
