Been warning people for months that TCU is not a good fit or a reliable partner. Their alumni always wanted the Big 12 and the Big East should stay within it's geographic region. Go get Memphis, Temple, ECU and UCF or Navy.

Nice, the BE gets a 5 million dollar exit fee plus 10 million from Pitt/Cuse. We need the academies in to immediately get back to 8 then take Temple & Memphis and after all the deck chairs realign, you have 10 FB teams and 16 BBall. This also keeps the hoops extremely strong & everything is more geographically manageable.
Next step, up the exit fee.

To be honest I don't see this as a loss, partially because it was such an absurd stretch geographically and partially because I never really had them actually coming in since Cuse and Pitt split. Add Temple, Air Force, Navy, Army (can't believe they won't join if other service academies are there) and Memphis. Will it be a great football league? No. But it will be decent with sick basketball.

Agreed, plus TCU has a terrible basketball program.

I like this one. Pitt and Cuse aren't exactly football powerhouses anyway. Nova will have to accept another team in their market - a fellow Big Five member BTW. The Johnnies share the NYC market with Rutgers and SHU. It the Conference needs Temple (and we do) Nova needs to go along. Memphis would be a great addition...assuming both Memphis AND Temple play in our Hoops conference. The others -- NAVY, AF, maybe Army too -- would be football only I assume? Lee Reed did say it was no accident the meeting Sunday was at GU because DiGioa and GU are leading the way. There was no mention at that meeting of Paul Tagliabu - and I didn't get the chance to ask. Don't know is the lack of his name coming up meant anything, or not. When I recall the founding of the BE, there were some really smart guys with vision who came up with is, including Dave Gaviit of course, but also JT-Pops, Rienzo, Lou Carneseca and even Jimmy Boeheim. Also included was Fr. Timothy Healy. I wonder who/if the smart guys are today? Tags would certainly top the list. Not sure who else would.

Just a question: If TCU wasn't a great fit geographically, why is Air Force?

If for some reason GW was considered to be a possible addition to the league, wouldn't we try to block it?

Just a question: If TCU wasn't a great fit geographically, why is Air Force? Because of the obvious benefit of having all comander-in-chief trophy teams within league play while adding badly needed rivalries as well as fact that all three are world class schools.

Also, is AF looking to be a full-time member or just football like Navy. TCU was a poor fit because it was an all-sports partner. Football can work with strange geography, non-revenue sports cannot.

I would let GW in if they had a big time football program.

Just a question: If TCU wasn't a great fit geographically, why is Air Force? Totally agree. Air Force would not be a good fit and it adds unnecessary expenses without any other real benefits to the Big East. If the goal is survival, it should also be to become a more secure conference. Adding Navy helps. Adding Memphis and UCF provides two good size markets. Adding Temple solidifies the Philadephia market. Together, Memphis and Temple replace what basketball has lost and UCF and Navy along with the other two would actually provide at least a breakeven in football.

Adding army and navy makes less sense without adding air force, which gives the league a character, several big rivalry games rather than just the one and national presence that would be unique to the league. Not to mention that over the last several decades, Air Force has generally been the best football school of the three. It should be football-only so there would be no added expenses for basketball schools and added expenses doesn't mean squat to IA football. I'm sorry but the fact that Air Force is a service academy means it is culturally tethered to the east coast in a way in which TCU could never be. Its not the same thing at all.
