Riggs is one of the coolest places on campus, yet I've only seen it in pictures. How do you actually get inside? I assume it's exclusively for meetings and events these days

They opened it for students to study in during finals in my senior year, I think. I know I've been inside, but only for an hour or so.

So assuming changing of the guidelines does not take an unanimous vote. Can't the 8 basketball schools+ that no one will ever take like USF out vote the schools looking to leave: Rutgers, Uconn and raise the exit fee to an absurd number or heck just change the bylaws to say that a team wanting to leave has to wait 50 years before leaving. The problem is the schools are probably delusional enough to think that they'll get invited to a better spot, so you can't count on a cinci, WV, louisville to vote to keep Uconn and rutgers in the fold even though they have no chance of being asked to join one of the 4 mega conferences.

I think if we could add Temple, Houston, Memphis, and ECU it would be a success.

The firat item on the agenda should be to remove Marinatto. After each remaining team gets to beat him up. You have to admit that his haircut is really epic.

For the exit fee/exit delay to have force of contract, presumably each party would need to agree to it. If all of the schools have agreed to the current bylaws, and those by-laws rquire a certain number or percentage to enact or change any of the rules or provisions, then all of the members would be bound by a vote with the required number of schools on board. While it might seem appropriate to immediately raise the buy-out amount, it could alienate any schools that the conference might still hope to be able to keep(Uconn, WVa, Rutgers,etc.). Of course if the majority don't believe those schools have any intention of staying in the long run, they might raise the $$$ payment anyway.

Raise the buyout now while none of those schools have a home. I would like to see Rutgers & Uconn leave the conference without a home and then get stuck as an independent when the music stops. To keep it manageable I hope they go Navy/Air Force for all football and then add Temple. Maybe add Boise State as an all football and suddenly you have a strong football conference if TCU stays.

After each remaining team gets to beat him up. You have to admit that his haircut is really epic. ;D true and fitting of a guy who is going to be at the helm when this league dies it's painful death. When you are trying to save your league and the answer is Air Force, Navy, Temple, UCF, you aren't saving anything-you are just making your death more painful instead of quick end. Either way--the step down from Gavitt/Tranghese to this doofus is proof the conference is getting what they deserved--but hey--he did make certain that Seton Hall-Rutgers rivalry was maintained while Hoyas-Cuse "afterthought" was put in it's place.

A question - if the conference expends, then loses more football schools, and we get to a point where we have to explore the basketball-only conference - would we subject ourselves to the buy-out fee even if we were willing to keep the rest of our sports in whatever might be left of the BE? While I can see the need to try to keep the conference together, at least for now because of the uncertainty and the financial issues, all involved certainly have to think long and hard about the long-term before committing to anything that might be even more costly down the road.

Isn't there a rule that says that you can only have one sport out of conference? In other words, because football is in the Patriot League, do all of our other sports have to be in the same conference? Or is the rule different because our football isn't Division I-A?

I think it is time to think of some of the geographical considerations. Air Force? Boise State? Why? Just to satisy the football schools does not seem like enough of a justification to me. I cannot imagine that Air Force would accept a football only admission, without a place for its other sports programs to go. I cannot imagine any Big East fans want to pay to see the Air Force basketball team perform. If you are going to add a team from the West, add BYU--their fans are already upset over their independent status and are pushing hard for the Big 12. I think that finding a partner for TCU makes sense, assuming that that the Big East wants to gamble on the long term loyalty of TCU--not a wise decision in my opinion, but then again how long has it been since the leadership of the Big East made a wise decision?. More likely, add Temple, Memphis, UCF and Navy.

I don't think anyone is actually promoting the idea of a basketball-only conference. I think "basketball only" is a way of saying "no football."

Why don't we go independent in basketball? It's not like we depend on the automatic bid from the BE to make the tourney. Getting a lot of big games in January and February at home might be tough, but we could play a nice mix of mid-majors and high-majors (especially in the beginning of the season) that would probably approximate the schedule we play now in terms of competition. Then the other sports can find a conference that makes sense for them. I'm serious.

I think the service academies are the Big East's best chance at two things: decent TV contract and ND eventually joining the Big East for football.
