Just finished up on WFAN in NY. I'm sure the audio will be posted shortly on their site, but definitely a recommended listen for all who are trying to keep up with the latest.

My online radio feed is blocked at work, so I was getting the play-by-play from another alum. I'll put it together in the next few minutes.

Tranghese was AWESOME!!!! Basically said the Big East was killing the ACC on the court and this was their only way to win. Everyone has to go listen. So my idea is the hoops schools go BEG Tranghese to be our new commish. We fight like hell for the Big East name and partner with Versus/NBC as a distributuion outlet. Maybe 'The Big East' can do for NBC in the teens what it did for ESPN in the 80's. Tranghese basically said the hoops schools need to move on and do something on their own, and it can be successful if the right guy leads it and they are creative.

Bear in mind this is all second-hand info; I am providing it as someone else heard. Go back and listen to the audio later to confirm.
They started off by taking a few minutes to honor Dave Gavitt. Tranghese was obviously upset over all the BE news happening at the same time as Gavitt's passing. Mike started off by blasting the whole thing, saying the BE got Miami into the BE just to keep Cuse happy. Tranghese responded by saying that the presidents punted their responsibility. There's no honor, no loyalty. It's all about greed, football and money. And, the basketball schools are going to have their own meeting and think about splitting off. 16 team conferences make him want to throw up.
Tranghese absolved the NCAA, and said they had no authority. It's the greedy presidents that are doing the damage, and he would not be surprised if eventually the super-football conferences leave the NCAA.
He later then said that he wanted to throw up when he heard someone say they were excited about possibly filling the Garden for a Clemson-NC St. ACC tourney game. "We've kicked the ACC's butts in basketball for the past 10 years and this is the only way they could beat us."
MT said B10 could come out a winner if UT and ND are all alone when the dust settles.
It'll take a lot of work and creativity, and it may not be end up as good as the Big East of the past decade...but if the BE gets some big moves and some big personalities, could have a league that produces NCAA title contenders.
Cuse/SJU and to a lesser degree UConn, are the pillars to the BE because of the NY market. If they are going to go for a basketball-only league they need a strong SJU.
ACC will probably try to raid again because it's their history and nature.
TCU still needs someone, so they aren't backing out of BE yet.
B10 is going to hold off in the Northeast because UConn and Rutgers doesn't get the B10 Network into NYC cable networks, ND does.
Duke and UNC hate this move.
MT said one of the reasons he walked away from his position was that he had an idea that 2003 would happen again, and he didn't have the stomach to go through one more time.
Going to advise PC on their next moves.
Francesa said losing Cuse hurts, but UConn isn't a big deal because Calhoun isn't long for there.

Everything else aside I would LOVE to see UConn slip into irrelevance once Calhoun moves on. I hope MT is right about that.

This is an absolute must-listen if you have 27 minutes. It will really make you feel better.
Edit: Francesa basically told Tranghese he would be the best person to put together a new league with the non-footballs. Tranghese said "The one group I am going to help is Providence because that is what Gavitt would want me to do" (paraphrase). Tellingly, he did not say "I have no interest in helping a new league along."

I agree with Tranghese about the ACC being unable to beat the Big East fairly so it had to resort to raiding the BE conference. I wrote just as much yesterday. That is what angers me so much about these latest events.

Get Tranghese to set the vision and negotiate a TV deal for a basketball-focus conference. It can be done. We should align ourselves with similarly positioned schools. It is the only sustainable solution.
Buck the trend. When everyone is going one way, we should go a different direction. The cobbled hodgepodge of 12/20 is ridiculous. Doesn't foster loyalty, rivalries, and intangibles that make a great conference great. And in 3 years the league will face more poaching and turmoil. The sooner we move to a better architecture, the better. We need vision and leadership to make this happen. Perhaps Tranghese is the man to lead the effort. Don't waste time or rivalries sill suffer, recruiting will be hurt.
There has to be television value on the open market for a revamped Big East that has an east and west divisions, with New York, Philadelphia, D.C., and Chicago markets, and a tourney at MSG in March. Memphis, Butler, Temple, and Xavier have been consistently better teams than a majority of Big East and ACC programs. St. Joe's and Richmond are not far behind. Providence is going to be great in two years. SJU is on the upswing. Marquette is solid. Hoyas solid. Nova solid.
